Updated: Headed to Parris Island

Recommended Posts

A few months ago, I posted a thread asking for some advice as I thought through the process of enlisting in the military. Joining the Marine Corps has been a goal of mine for a long time and I've finally been able to get the ball rolling.

I got a 90 on the ASVAB, passed MEPS, swore in, and signed up with the MSG MOS. I'm now officially a recruit, looking to join the Embassy Guard program. Prior to 2018, you had to be in the corps for a couple years and rank up before you could go into this program. They created an MOS for it this year, meaning I have a unique opportunity for a relatively new job as a fresh recruit. I did a lot of research into the job and what all it entails and sets me up for afterwards and I'm really looking forward to traveling the world and doing security-oriented work. Afterwards, it sets me up pretty well for a job with the Secret Service or private security firms if that's the route I still want to go after being in the military.

All that to say, the next five years of my life won't be easy, especially boot camp. But I'm looking forward to the ride. Figured I'd let you guys know. Even if it's not the Coast Guard ( @A-Jay ). March 18th is my ship date and Parris Island can't come soon enough.

Second the not swatting the sand fleas. You might be digging very large graves for them.

boot camp is just the beginning. they’re gonna find out what you’re made of and push you to your limit, physically and mentally. don’t think too far ahead, just get through each day, one day at a time. after graduation and once you get settled in the everyday Corps things will lighten up a bit. do your job, dont hang with the wrong crowd, and you’ll be just fine. God bless you man and welcome to the brotherhood.

Congrats!

There's some great bass fishing in the Beaufort / Bluffton / Hilton Head area. It's too bad you won't have any time to enjoy it :)
