reb67 225 Report post Posted December 31, 2018 Anyone been on the Chick lately? I'm thinking about headed down that way tomorrow and was wondering what the water conditions was like.
Sam 4,854 Report post Posted December 31, 2018 No idea. The Historic James is high and dirty. May be the same conditions for the Chick, at least by the mouth and up towards Morris and Gordon creeks. Give it a try and let us know what you find out and how you did. Where are you putting in? Good luck and be safe.

Sam 4,854 Report post Posted January 1 Great! Head upriver for clearer water and make sure to check out Yarmouth and Shipyard creeks on your way to the dam area. You can also go to the back of Morris or Gordon creeks to find clear water but I would think you will have better luck at Yarmouth and Shipyard and Little creeks. Let us know how you do. Have a fun time.

flyfisher 2,943 Report post Posted January 2 While i wasn't on the chick, i did drive over both the Mattaponi and the Pamunkey in hanover and in my 10+ years driving over and fishing those two rivers, I have never seen them this high for this extended period of time. I drove over them about a week ago and they were high and today, they were still the same if not higher. I am anxious for lower water levels to see how much the river has changed and what new areas have been created and old ones disappear.
reb67 225 Report post Posted January 2 No nothing serious just sore. They put in at Rockahock the water was very high but pretty clear. They didn't run to the lower end of the river not sure of the water conditions there. They caught 4 bass and 1 pike. The biggest was about 3lbs not bad for January .
Sam 4,854 Report post Posted January 3 They probably stayed around the dam and fished the dam, piers, wood, grass and pad lines plus a creek or two. Nice to know there is some clear water up by the dam, which is about 10 miles or so, give and take, from the mouth of the river where it meets the Historic James River.
