Underspins?

Recommended Posts

Making a TW order and would like to try some Underspins.  Problem is I've never used one.  What are a couple good models to try?  Thanks.

Based on articles , reviews , experience , etc. the one underspin that is mentioned at the top most often is the : "Coolbaits" brand underspin (chartreuse Shad / gold blade ; Silver Shad / silver blade) probably in the 1/4oz. ~ 3/8th oz. range as you will be mostly be slow rolling it along the bottom . I would match it up with a Keitech Swing Fat Impact in 3.3" or 3.8" (Silver Flash Minnow color) or other color of your choosing ... In the number two spot would be the Blade Runner Spintrix in the shad or pearl white color head and again in that 3/8th oz. range to start . If you fish deeper water (greater than say 12') then you would want to consider moving up in weight to 1/2 oz. or more . Lastly , there are other paddle tail swim baits that will work IF the paddle action is active and consistent at slow retrieve speeds . For a straight tail option (often preferred in cold water due to less action)  try a Zoom Fluke or a Super Fluke Jr. in Pearl White or Shad colors . That's about all I got to suggest - good luck !

Thanks guys.  I ordered a few Coolbaits regular and weedless.  Didn't realize until after I ordered that the Fish Head Stand Up Underspin on TW is a Sworming Hornet.  I plan on calling tomorrow and have a few added to my order.  I already have Keitech Swing Fat Impact (maybe even in Silver Flash Minnow color) and Super Fluke Jr. in Pearl White to try.

The underspin blade conflicts a bit with the aggressive kick of a Keitech boot tail. My buddy found that the Strike King caffeine shad was a good match on the underspins.

Hi,

I personally like to use the Blakemore Casey's Classic Runner in pearl color. It's $8 for a pack of two. I like to pair it with Strike King Rage Swimmer 3.75 in the pearl flash color.

Hope this helps!

For an open hook underspin, I've done well with these BPS underspins. They'll be on sale during the Spring Classic (down to $2.47 from $3.69).

One of the keys to a good underspin is to have enough clearance between the blade and the soft plastic so the blade is not impeded and turns freely.

The Eco Pro Thunder Spins are the highest quality underspin out there. I love them, but I want to cry whenever I hang one up.

Sworming Hornet is the go to for price and good quality. They've also helped a few guys win some big checks...

At least as regards using Keitechs paddle tails, I really like the Owner Flashy Swimmer where the plastics are attached with a CPS pin. They come in a variety of sizes from 1/8th to 3/4s oz. and a couple of different blade designs/colors.

For certain, no jig head, but such an effective lure at the right moments to add a bit of weight and flash to a soft swimbait.

Fishing something really big? In the Beast version, you can get a 12/0 hook.

*I usually drop down a size or two on the willow blade - too many stock underspins come with either too large of a willow leaf blade OR the design does not offer enough clearance for the blade to turn freely .

Had to get custom made forged hooks for them -now super strong you can remove the skirt and put a fluke on or a swimbait to accentuate the wobble --COOOOOL stuff from Uncle B Bobby B
