Anybody out there using sluggos?

Recommended Posts

I've found the 6" perch sluggo to be absolutely killer. But when I ask local tackle shops they tell me nobody uses them anymore. I've gone as far as adding doll eyes and dyes with great success catching quality large and smallmouth.

I have some but it has been a couple of years since I actually fished with them.  I fish with flukes more now.

I do and catch fish on them.  Best method for me is weightless.  I caught a 4.5 pounder on a rainbow trout colored one in summer of 2018.

Haven't used a sluggo since I was like 12 but I used to catch a ton of fish on them.

I still use a lot of Lunker City baits, they're a very underrated company for some reason. The Sluggo, Salad Spoon and Hellgies are almost always in the boat. The sluggo is still a confidence bait for me, it still outfishes the fluke.  The Salad spoon is a good alternative topwater with some unique sound/action, hooksets aren't superb (but not dismal either)... The Hellgies are a great numbers bait. I'll toss them under docks all day long, the fish are not at all conditioned to their fairly unique profile.

Yes, I use them for skipping docks (although I use a local manufacturers knockoff version for the smaller size).  I find that weightless sluggos skip better & flatter than flukes, and stay on the hook better during all that abuse.

Use the 6" Sluggo for Scrounger trailers.
