getting along with neighbors

That's funny, I have that app, and when theres a door to door salesman in the area it's literally pandemonium.  People saying there's someone at the door and they hide behind a chair. They post pics from their doorbell camera of the person. People are nuts.

Ha ha. Exactly. And , oh my goodness, let a restaurant make a little mistake, and everybody jumps on the bandwagon...

One of my neighbors organized a coat drive last year and had two ministers from the mission it was benefitting helping collect the coats and sell soup door to door on the collection day. NextDoor app collective lost its mind and one of the people actually called the police on the poor guys. Mind you, the coat collection thread and date were right above the "Strange Men" thread.

I live in Germantown, TN with 49,00 neighbors.  I have lived here 22 years without an issue

and without any conflicts reported by my friends. Maybe you guys should move down here,

I've been fighting off a job transfer that would put me within 20 miles of Pickwick.

Pros-

Better fishing

People are nice

Cons-

Too much of a Yankee

Middle of nowhere

That's a rough neighborhood.  The smallmouth in Pickwick are the meanest fish I have ever been around. 🙂

Well based on the responses here, I think I am going to confront this guy about his behavior pretty soon.  The problem is that I am a very type A person and I often see things in black and white, so there's really no way for me to be subtle about it.  Its either that or just continue to ignore it, which I've already done for 4 years now.

I'm the type of guy that can do and fix just about anything.  You name it, I probably do it or have done it, and don't mind going out of my way to help someone.

With that said, I'm also the type of guy that does not tolerate a lot annoyances, and very easily p****d off when things do annoy me and don't take much BS.

When it comes to neighbors, it's like I've told two of them when we first became neighbors.  Now this was two different incidences with them, one 18 years ago when we first moved here, one 7 years ago when they first moved in..

I, in as polite of a manner as I could muster up, introduced myself to them, then I explained the citation and told them I could be the best neighbor they ever had, or I could be the biggest SOB they ever knew, then asked them which neighbor did they want.  I've gotten along with both just fine since.

If it gets too boring, all I have to do is get on the " next door " nieghborhood forum app. to catch up on all the latest drama.

I use to have one of those "apps" but she moved in with her daughter in a town about 10 miles away. All I had to do was step out of my door and I heard the latest news on what was going on in the neighborhood. One time I came home from a week-long vacation and as I got out of my car I heard about every vehicle that had been parked in that spot since I left. I miss that app.

Update: I called the city code enforcer to report his violations.  The code enforcer was appalled this was happening for so long without anyone reporting it.  So the other day a city vehicle drove past real slow and made some observations.  The code enforcer called me back and said he is in violation of at least 3 city codes, possibly more.  I don't know how long he has to comply but at least the wheels are moving now.

Side note: he's still parking in front of my house instead of his own.  So the other day when we got some snow, I blew some snow from my snowblower on his car on purpose.  Maybe he'll figure it out now...or maybe not.

Am not sure this qualifies as a "neighbor" but some tree removal service had parked their flat bed truck and, by the tracks, a skid steer (or something like it) on the gravel in front of my house.  Being "neighborly", I didn't really care. UNTIL I came home one evening and the truck was gone BUT they had torn the living doodoo out of the gravel (leaving deep ruts and mounds of gravel and dirt) and left it for me to worry about.  I stopped wanting to be "neighborly" about then.  Wish I could remember the name of the business.

IMO most neighborhoods have too many rules. Ours does. I break them often. Just don’t wake me up. And if you get too close to the house my cameras will alert me.
