Watching MLF in Maine, made me look back to 2018

Recommended Posts

I was watching MLF this morning and they were on Great pond which is several hours south of me. They did great and the show gave me the bass bug causing me to look back and realize Maine 2018 was awesome for my family. In my area we had a huge drought and water levels were way low. This changed what generally worked for us. My father and I found a pattern in September that held for us all the way to Mid October, and that was going deep. We ended up slaying bass, funny thing is mostly largemouth in depths of 20ft to 35 foot of water! Which isn't normal for us. We can usaully stay in 10 foot of water or less throughout the fishing season. Not last year, we caught them deep dropshoting, slow rolling swimbaits along the bottom, football jigs, heavy weighted Texas rigs and deep diving crankbaits. Thing is they were big too they averaged from 3 to 5 lbs!! And lots of them. The following pictures are from several trips starting mid September to mid October it held that long. We caught more then I'll post but these are some of the bigger ones.

This is kinda what we saw, I always forgot to take a picture of fishfinder while they were active, we could see them hit the lures.

The entire season starting in April was great. We caught more 4 and 5 pound  bass this past season then most others. I'll post a few more of random bass caught throughout, I have so many I don't want to bog the site down lol so I'll keep it low.

Thanks, over 21 inches of ice on the lakes going to be awhile. You don't realize how many fish you catch in a season until you look back, I didn't even share a 1/4 of my pictures...many many more and then you think " I didn't even take pictures of all the fish we caught, not even close!".

I've been here all along. I mostly lurk, and read all the post. Dwight by now I think you see I'm a creature of habbit. About this time every year I make my winter blues post awaiting open water. I mean to post through out the fishing season but I just never take time to do so. I still really enjoy seeing those beautiful smallies that you and Ajay post. Going to try a new lake this summer after watching Hank Parker numb some giant smallmouth there on tv. I was very surprised to see him catch those monsters because that lake is known for cold water species and the State would like to see the smallies gone...grrr. It seems the secret bass fishery of Maine isn't so much a secret.

Lol, I've been looking into deep water tackle, my plan is to unlock some deep secrets on several other lakes in my area. We were able to find hot deep water bites on 3 of the lakes we fish, now to find more!!

Oh just a few more

This was a pair of 4 poundahs netted at the same from the deep.

This was a cool catch! Was fishing topwater for smallmouth when this fish exploaded on the lure, fought amazingly thought it was a monster instead a pair of decent smallies decided to share lunch. Both 2 pounds or so, a 4 pound catch lol.

Then just a few more 4 pound deepwater largemouth

I fish that area they were in often. Tons of really good water in that area; I mean a ton of lakes/ponds.

It's called Waterville for a reason
