Recently we have purchased a Pelican predator 10ft 2-man bass boat.  Our primary and ONLY source of power will be coming from a Brand New Minn Kota 55lbs trolling motor.  

#1-Exactly What type/size (amps) of Battery do we need for this motor?

#2-Do we need a surge protector for this trolling motor.  The only other electronics will be a small fish finder?

Get yourself a 27 series deep cycle battery with as many reserve (not cranking) amps as you can find.  Get at least 185 reserve amps so you will have power for a long time.  Be sure to charge it up at the end of the trip.  Keep water over the plates and you should be good to go for several years.

Exactly as Jig Man said. I'm not aware of a need for a surge protector. Charge after each use.

Lol, yes, a surge protector, aka a fuse. You need one for about 60 amps.

A CIRCUIT BREAKER or fuse is recommended for the positive side of the trolling motor circuit. The automatic reset circuit breaker is the most trouble free.

I take it most marine places will know all about 27 deep cycles and 185 reserve amps.  Sorry guys I am new to the boating thing,  I just don't want to buy the wrong thing.  Minn Kota makes ("recommends") a fuse box or whatever for about $24.99.  Does that sound about right?  Thanks for the help

Wayne, where did you find that circuit breaker?  My local auto shops have breakers but they only go up to 30 amps or so.

Try one of these has a breaker built in.
