2012 Nitro Z7 Electrical Question

Recommended Posts

One major complaint I have with the Nitro brand is the quality of wiring they do on their boats. I currently have a 2012 Nitro Z7 with the 150HP 4 stroke. Over the last several months I have been going through the wiring on the boat and cleaning up or replacing in my opinion sub par electrical wiring and connectors. All of the connectors have now been replaced with either molex heat shrink style connectors or have had some style of DT series deutsch plug installed.

The biggest concern that I have is none of the wiring coming off of the batteries had any sort of fused protection on them. I went ahead and added a 60A fuse to the 24V trolling motor system and ran high quality 6ga wiring to the new Ultrex trolling motor I installed late last year. The TM is hardwired with no plug at the bow so I installed a blue sea battery cutoff switch to kill power to the TM while I was using the onboard charger .

I decided to upgrade the wiring coming off of the cranking battery and add another master disconnect switch. The main fuse I am running is a 50A with the same high quality 6ga running from the battery to the fuse, fuse to the disconnect switch, disconnect switch to the main bussbar. The main question and concern I have is that when I was connecting the main engine cables to the bussbar, I noticed that this wiring was 4ga. Curious if anyone thinks I will have a problem with the 6ga wiring that is feeding the fuse, switch, and bussbar?
