Replace twing with standard guide

Featured Replies

I was wondering if it's possible to replace the twing line guide on my tatula with a standard opening line guide?

I use braid to leader and the knot and the twing don't play nice.

Buy a Fuego CT. You can find them on ebay for 60$

Any reason you're using a leader that long?

I seem to have no problems getting a full day out of a leader just long enough that it does not need to pass through the line guide and onto the spool

You can’t, but you can try a different knot. I use braid to leader, roughly 8ft long (30/12 and 30/15) and I’ve not experienced any trouble on my steez tws. I use the modified Albright. You only wrap 1 direction so it is very small and I trim the tag ends flush with the knot. See if that helps you any.

Gee, its as though nobody actually read the question...........

I don’t see a leader knot safely passing through any low profile baitcast reel. I too use braid and a leader and have tried it. Your best bet is throw all of your stiff graphite rods out and get moderate rods. Then you only need between a 10 inch and 2 foot leader at most. The flex in the rod will make up for the loss of stretch in the leader.

It's a wonder I catch anything at all, with all the wrong things I do, according to the rest of you.

Please send any "stiff graphite rods" to me for proper disposal....  That is all.

Unfortunately the way the T-wing operates is that the level-wind actually rotates when you press down the thumb bar, if you used a normal line guide it wouldn't line up correctly.

But I agree, it's a pain to use braid to leader with anything greater than about 12 or 15lb leader I've found with the T-wing. I wish they'd redesign a new T-wing with shallower entrance angles and a slightly wider channel to accommodate leader knots, I think enough guys do braid to leader it would sell well. It's honestly at the point I'm just gonna buy feugos going forward because I don't want to deal with it.

Largest I go for line size is 25lb mono leader with 65lb braid mainline and it is able to pass through the line guide on a Lexa 300 with no issue.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I have a fuego as well and no issues at all, so I may sell the tatula and just pick up another fuego or a Shimano slx.

Casting? I have used a leader with levelwind, but casting would be difficult.

I already burned them threw them off a cliff and dumped them in the ocean.

Yup, I use it for swimbaits. Actually I try and keep the knot out of the spool but that's for a different reason entirely. At max spool capacity the leader knot actually rubs against the thumb bar but goes through the line guide fine.

Why use a braid with leader to start with? Mono, FC or Copoly doesn't stretch under 30% of the line lb test rating and most MH bass rods can't apply over 4 lbs of force.

If the OP doesn't like his T wing reels, he should sell them!

I haven’t heard that stat before. So, for example it would take at least 3# of pressure for 10# mono to start to stretch? I do believe that line stretch is greatly misunderstood. It’s often talked about as if fishing line was elastic.
