I find MLF entertaining, but totally agree there’s way too many small fish caught...

When you see guys set the hook and say “BIG fish,” or “Giant!” only for Scoretracker to say “One Pound, 10 ounces...” something is wrong.

I personally think that anything under 2 pounds is a nuisance fish and the strategy should be to change the pattern to catching a higher number of quality fish.

If everyone is held to the same slightly elevated standard, it shouldn't be unfair or that difficult to adjust to... and would be

more entertaining to watch IMO.

I understand that MLF's entire idea, is to produce an entertaining product. The current format does exactly what they are after ....more action. By counting every, 1 pounder, it limits the angler's chance of moving around much, which makes more fishing action, but terrible for the angler to highlight his decision ability to recover.  What separates great anglers from good anglers are the decisions they make. This particular format limits those decisions down to almost one! ..... where to start! If that decision is wrong, recovering in this format is difficult...... the reason why guys that blast them the first couple days, are nowhere around at the end,  I think MLF is going to need to add elements that give anglers more decisions to make, if they are really wanting to showcase their talents .....if seeing guys spin out via scoretracker, is what makes good TV, then there are likely 500 to 1000 aspiring anglers to pick from to do it ..don't ruin the talents of the best in the world!  If MLF would limit the amount of fish, for a total weight ....say the best 10 or even more, it would free up enough time for anglers to recover, by having enough time for other decisions. .... they could still weigh 12" but not necessarily the target for best total weight.

They could do something with the biggest bass to give incentive to chase bigger fish.  Maybe everyone's biggest bass is worth 2-3x the weight. Or maybe their biggest 5?

Maybe they should just give all of them the same rod and reel and the same one or two baits and no electronics, no power poles, nothing. Really see who the real men are. Some people here are acting like it's so simple to go out and catch 30-40 fish in a day, well there are plenty of guys that don't do it. Like has been said, nobody is forcing anyone to watch it and I doubt too many of them have about had it with MLF.

That gives me an idea. MLF should have some sort of All Star Skills Competition weekend. They could have one event like casting at targets at different distances.

Then they could have one or two hour rounds where everyone fishes with their choice of one crankbait that dives to the same maximum depth for everyone. Obviously, because of sponsor obligations they can't all use the same exact bait. Then have another round with a frog, another with a spinnerbait, etc.

Anglers can win specific events and in each event receive points and crown an overall champion. Hold it in the summer so the anglers can all bring their families with them.

Let's go MLF - make this happen!

Bobby Lane caught 60 bass for 95-04 today. If you think that doesn't showcase his skill and ability to find and catch fish and figure out a solid pattern, I'm not sure what to tell you. I guess as somebody said, he just figured out the best place to start the day. lol

Is it a perfect system? No, it isn't. Hopefully they will tweak it as it goes to make it better. This is a brand new way of doing tournaments in its first year, guys are still learning how to play. It isn't ever going to be a 5 biggest fish format, there are 2 other national trails for that.

FLW just had a 3 day tournament on Table Rock, the winner had 46-3, or an average of 3.08 pounds per fish. Not exactly a lake full of giants.

Whether people like it or not, the market will determine the success of MLF.  TV and live stream numbers are what is important. Like it or don't like it, people are talking about it.  The old saying is there is no such thing as bad publicity.  If you are an advertiser would you rather advertise to  1,000 people at a weigh-in or 100,000 watching on TV?  MLF is the number one show on the Outdoor channel.  I canceled my cable, but I pay 10.00 a month for the Outdoor channel because I want to watch MLF shows. I am also a BASS member and enjoy streaming their events. I enjoy watching fishing.  Are some tournaments more enjoyable than others? Yes. People seem to be forgetting that it is still a competition. You have to catch more than everyone else.  Whether it is the weight of your best 5 or total weight of all scorable fish, you are competing against others.  People that keep saying it is easy to catch a bunch of dinks are just wrong.  I am guessing a lot of the big names that are at the bottom of the leaderboard would also disagree.

I think they do it this way is because of the live format. If guys are targeting big fish only they are only catching 5-7 a day. Just look at the CLASSIC, on day 1 there were 18 guys who didn't even weigh in 5 fish. There may be a total of 600 - 800 fish caught on a day of MLF, there may be 200 caught on a BASS event. Hard to pitch a new format where there isn't a constant, or at least almost constant catch rate. In my opinion this is why BASS has never tried to go live, they knew the interest wouldn't be there and that is why they focus on the weigh in as their main draw.

BASS does go live.  They have been doing live shows for Elite events for maybe that past 4-5 years I think.  Actually, with the start of BPT, Bass goes Live on every day of the event, they used to just do Friday-Sunday, now they start live on Thursday.  Also new this year, they offer a live feed with commentary, then another live feed that's just fishing, no announcers.

I agree, while its fun to watch them catch a lot fish, some incentive to catch bigger fish would be nice.  I can only watch them catch so many 1.5lb fish before I'm ready to move on to something else.

So much anger towards MLF.  Maybe this, maybe that...

Maybe they should just keep on doing what they are doing.  Its totally different fishing.  It's not Bassmaster or FLW.  MLF does not want to be Bassmaster if I understand Boyd Duckett right.  And with the MLF format you get to know the competitors better.

I don't see an issue criticizing a product that's aimed directly at us as bass anglers.

i'm ecstatic when i catch a limit in my local tourney's. 30-40 fish would be an awesome day i don't care how "small" they are.

BPT is not MLF.

Once the cup action starts it will probably look similar to what you have seen in the past.

I'm interested in seeing the discovery channels version of each event.

If they can draw in casual fans then the BPT will explode.

At the classic one of the guys associated with BASS U was talking to another guy that was with Power Pole.

They were making the comparison of a baitmaker getting his product on the shelves at the local bait shop VS the guy that gets his baits sold at Walmart. For one the potential growth could be limitless.

Wow, crazy we didn't have a "BASS Elite Series has turned into a dink fest" after the Winyah bay event when the leader weighed 50lbs IN 4 DAYS.

You guys are smarter than that, this is a result of the fishery and not the the format.

I will agree that BPT is geared more towards the number of fish caught (which is way more exciting to me) however, i don't agree this is a "dink fest".

Its funny you bring this up. I was watching an interview with Tim Horton, I don't remember if it was youtube or his show on WFN, but anywho he said that the score tracker scares the anglers and instead of remaining calm and targeting the bigger fish the anglers get rattled and just try to get what they can in the boat and on the board. And honestly watching MLF and BPT he hit the nail on the head. I remember watching a Selects event where everyone started flipping docks and lay downs but Fletcher Shryock who was slinging jerkbaits and buzzbaits along rip rap. As soon as Fletcher started catching them everyone gave up on what they were doing, downsized their gear and targeted schools instead of the big ones. I think if anglers would just remain calm and realize it takes 20 1lbers to get a 20lb bag or 5 4lbers. Its still a weight system not a how many fish can you catch contest.

I don't have a problem with the graphs, power poles, rods, reels, etc. I really think should be taken off boats is a Hydrowave. I watched a video with KVD where he was talking about his performance for an event and he said that he couldn't buy a bite until he turned on his hydrowave and it turned the bite on. I friend of mine has one and we were out fishing one day where the bite was tough and he turned his on and bam you could see the fish start moving towards the boat once that thing was one. If you're a pro you shouldn't need that kind of technology on the boat.

Nuisance fish? You do understand that little fish grow up to be big fish, eh?

I hope those "Nuisance fish" keep biting like they are. I'll be on Table Rock with my family Friday-Monday this week :)

I'd love nothing more than to put my wife and boys on a bunch of hard pulling 2lb Table Rock spotted bass.

You gonna give us a score tracker update when you boat 124 lbs of fish? 😊

If I hit that total in the 4 days, I'll be happy.
