Best spinning set up under $150?

Featured Replies

Hey all, I’ve been replacing all my fishing rods and reels lately as they are all really old and have many knicks and issues. I’m gonna start off with 1 baitcaster and 1 spinning set up. I already purchased the baitcaster set up I’ve had my eye on for a while now which is the 13 fishing fb origin. It is a beauty and I love it. I saw that they have a spinning combo around the same price the 13 fishing fb creed, heard the rod was great but many reviews say the reel is not worth the combo price. Maybe someone has experience with it on here, feel free to share even if not. What’s the best spinning set up or combo I could snag with a budget of 150? Everyone feel free to put in their $0.2.

Given my preferences for Pflueger/Mitchell for spinning reels and Diawa for all rods, here's a couple setups at or just under your $150 mark

Pflueger President XT on a Diawa Fuego

Mitchell 300-Pro (308-Pro/310-Pro) on a Diawa Procyon

Been looking at some of the diawa rods, heard good things.

BPS had pro qualifier rods on sale for $60 now. Get a 6'6" Medium and pair that with a 30 size pflueger president XT for $80

Daiwa Aird X paired with a Daiwa Fuego LT ($155 retail)

Or

Fenwick HMG paired with a Pflueger President ($160 retail)

Power, action and reel size depends on what you want out of your spinning setup. If you're going to prefer throwing Ned rigs and dropshots, a ML/F with a size 1000 (Daiwa) or 25 (Pflueger) reel. If you're going to prefer throwing Senkos and other weightless plastics, wacky rigs, and small Texas rigs, a M/F with a size 2500 (Daiwa) or 30 (Pflueger) reel.

Cheaper options would be a Daiwa Aird X paired with a Daiwa Legalis LT ($125 retail) or a Fenwick Eagle paired with a Pflueger President ($120 retail).

Refurb dobyns champion ftw! Pass on the Fury. Tatula elite ags are sweet but $250.

I just picked up a couple more of the Powell Inferno spinning rods, 7'0" - MH / XF and these are a great rod for $79 bucks.  A few places have them on sale, but I got mine at Shelton Outdoors with free shipping.  It's a good rod for many applications that has decent sensitivity and quick tip.  I put a KastKing speed demon on one of the rods and a left over Shimano Sonora on the other.  If I was buying new, I would do a Pflueger President or KastKing Sharky III in the $60 price range to keep it at the $150 range.

I would go Daiwa Fuego LT and Tatula XT.  Sportsmans Outfitters has the Fuego LT for $74.99 and Tatula XT for $79.99.  I have the medium action spinning rod and 3000 size LT.
