Is anyone else getting tired of the Googan Squad?

The one that really disappoints me is Scott Martin. His videos use to be a blast to watch, but that's before his videos became straight up shilling for whatever new product he had a stake in.

You know he is Roland's kid right?....

I have a NOS C-Lector I can let you have for a good price...

Yeah haha. I understand..

I wish they would have separate channels for shilling their garbage though. But that'd never get them the clicks they need.

I agree 100%.  He seems very down to earth, one of my favorites to watch as well.  I used to watch Flukemaster more, but lately he's gotten more into Kayak fishing so I've kinda lost interest.  Nothing wrong with Kayak fishing, its just not my preference.

As far as the googan squad, I never watched them.  I tried to watch a couple videos, but it just wasn't my style.

You have to admit the production quality of their vids has gotten better over the years.  They are annoying, but that's what is demanded from them these days.  I've lost interest, as many others have stated, due to the capitalist direction they've taken.  But if not them, then some other select group of bro-dudes would be doing it.  Even their name is annoying as f***.  I will say the hunting trip that LFG made to New Zealand was of great quality.

I’ve tried giving him helpful tips here and there but I’m dad

Don't worry, they do come back. My son is always coming over to borrow rods and lures. If I'm really lucky, he'll even ask me how to use a particular bait now and then.

My son, a 12 year old avid angler, told me about Jon B and the Googan Squad. I watched a video with him and laughed. He asked what was funny, so I told him. I told him my opinion. They're seemingly a bunch of punks who are shilling overpriced rods and baits. I turned him onto Drew Gregory (yak angler here),  Chad Hoover (his shilling has gotten almost intolerable), Tactical Bassin, Bass Resource, Keepin It Real and a few others. The kid loves fishing, has read Murphy and Sowbelly. He reads the magazines, anything he can get his hands on.

Ehh, the videos are whatever. I respect the fact they found a way to monetize what they enjoy. Sellouts? Nah, the dude going to a job he hates with people he can’t stand for far less coin for 30 years is a sell out. At least they’re chasing it.

Privileged? Probably.

Don’t  really ‘get it’? Assuredly.

But life is filled with folks who don’t and come out winning.

and they’re winning. No question about it.

We all have dice to roll. Theirs came up snake eyes..

Still won’t buy their baits tho..

Hey, Nathan Detroit, you might want to stick to bass fishing and stay away from casinos and clandestine games.  "I got the horse right here, his name is Paul Revere".. :)

I hadn't heard of this crew until people on this forum expressed their disapproval.  You guys are giving them a ton of publicity! 😁

+1

Saw all the chatter here about them a few months ago.  I watched no more than 3 minutes of two different videos.  Never saw a reason to watch any more.  Never saw a reason to get upset about them, either.   They may as well be making videos about basket making or something else I have no interest in watching.  Unless someone here is talking about them, I'd not remember they exist.

Speaking of "old," I use to watch Gene Jensen until a few years ago, he mentioned to a group that "forums were for old people" and that he didn't want to hang out on them because YT was what the younger folks wanted. I considered that a slap in the face directed towards people who still know how and enjoy reading. Don't take me wrong, I enjoy watching YT, but I dread the day when our youth beats feet across the lake to the likes of the Googans because they are "dope" and they leave the old man in the straw hat sitting alone in his john boat - thinking he has nothing to contribute. Even as a younger man in my twenties, I always made time for the "old salts" who first taught me how to fish.

I don't begrudge Gene trying to forge his way into making a living at it...and if that meant he had to leave BR to do it, so be it.  But, I agree...while I used to read most everything he posted and watched all his videos, I haven't seen but probably two or three since he left here.

Saw him mentioned here on BR a couple times, so I watched a video of his.  Have to admit that this FOG almost bailed in first minutes after seeing how young he looked...lol.  But, I stuck it out and was hugely impressed.  I have only watched a couple of his videos, but I have a good deal of respect so far.

I went and viewed the Googan ICast video and it was interesting.

What I am wondering is where they got the capital to start the company or did they go bare bones and contract all of the production to another entity in the USA?

Baits seem to be along the lines of the Brush Hog and Rage Tail craws plus some Zoom baits.

They also mentioned that their baits have scent in them. Not sure if I like that although I must admit I like the General by Berkley and its scent. I put MegaStrike on my baits so this may not be a negative for me.

Will I try the new Googan baits? No, not this soon. I will let you guys fish them and then report back. :D

People become millionaires from their YouTube content. Views, likes, comments and subs adds up to big bucks. Eventually you throw in sponsors and people giving famous people business opportunities and you end up with things like Googan.

Googan squad sucks. And this is coming from a young gun (22) Googan Baits are overpriced and have way too much oil, I'll stick with my rage craws and pit boss. Also heard they're making hard baits now, probably gonna be like 15 dollars for one little squarebill, screw that!

Not trying to argue, but the Googan Baits are only 50 cents more expensive than your Rage baits...I'm not a supporter of the squad either just saying that they are basically priced the same as the Rage Series.

Because Senkos are proven to be one of the best bass baits of all time and none of the knock offs perform on the same level as a Senko.

I like Googan plastics but nothing they did is ground breaking and they're easily replaceable by better.

They're not 9 dollars better. You can catch fish on any plastic if you know how to fish it.

$15 for a squarebill isn't bad. Look at Megabass, Evergreen, etc. If the baits are quality, it's no big deal. I don't throw much in the way of crank baits anyway.

All I throw is KVDs 1.5 and 2.5s and maybe a deep diver if I'm fishing a bigger lake. Only around 6 bucks at my local stores

Rage series always preformed better, bought a pack of the Krackin craw from googan baits they were selling them at Dicks sporting goods and After catching one dink the craw was basically destroyed worst than a senko after 1 fish.

Not worth getting it snagged. But I'm still farely new to all around bass fishing so I can't really talk about snagging and losing lures.

I really enjoyed that as well. The video quality and scenery was spectacular. As I said earlier LFG is the most down to Earth guy in the squad and his own channel's content is still good. He also has a channel with his wife, OSG, that's entertaining as well. Just a good ol' American family channel.

I can not say for sure, but their individual subscriber bases would suggest they each make well into six digits annually including LunkersTV who probably has some of his videos demonetized.  They likely had the capitol to start a company.

I am not much of a hunter, but I might have to check that out.  Although I can’t claim to have seen many of their videos, I did get caught up in a series of videos by Jon B. where he hosted two anglers from England for two weeks. Listening to them compare the experiences of fishing between here and their home increased my appreciation for what I have and where I live.

I have little tolerance for stupidity and that is what the Googans seem to thrive on. But hey, if that is what gets them more views, then good for them.

Personally, I only watch TRF and Scott Martin. Mainly because they are tournament anglers and Scott's day in the life videos of a touring pro are right up my alley.

Around here Dingers are $3 and Senkos are $8. Dingers have rarely caught me a fish, but I can burn through a bag or three of Senkos in one day catching fish, and one of my top two LMB ever was caught on one. Nothing compares to a Senko regardless of what people try to tell themselves because of the price. And believe me, I believe in frugality or a variant thereof. Senkos are one of the baits that are worth the price tag.

Every video is click bait, their Videos no longer have an value. If your going to watch fishing vids, tactical basin and fish the moment are beyond educational.
