Is anyone else getting tired of the Googan Squad?

You made a great point about having the latest swag, but this has been going on for years with every pro angler wearing endless amounts of brands on every inch of their body, boat, tackle, truck, etc.

While I don't disagree, there is a big distinction between the pros who are promoting their sponsors in order to make a living and kids who fish stock ponds posting pictures with a fish in one hand and a package of Googan baits in the other as if it gives them some sort of cred

Everyone has to eat.  Is it any different than a Cialis commercial with a leacherous gray hair guy leering at his mistress old enough to be his daughter?  The rampant douchebaggery of those ass clowns is laughable at best and at worse embarrassingly awful.  It's like a collab of Vanilla Ice and Guy Fieri headed to a Creed concert but instead pushing schlocky cheap junk while fishing a stocked lake.

Bruh totally lit.....like your dad's visa statement after the Googan splurge.

Oh look, one of them has a new video where they get the threatened to have the cops called on them  yet again for fishing private property. I've been fishing for over 30 years and not once have I ever been in a situation where the cops have been called, but these little punks manage to do it almost on a daily basis.

How many millions of acres of water are there in Canada, but these punks manage to find the ones where they know people are going to get upset and cause drama. Great example they are setting for younger fisherman! Whatever drives your Youtube channel and gets you clicks I guess.

Instead of complaining about them, just stopping watching their videos.

The problem is that little kids watch there videos, and that will give them the impression that’s it’s okay to get in trouble.

Maybe parents need to start policing what kids watch, Hopefully kids should know right from wrong. If kids think getting in trouble is cool , then they have a real issue.  Kids need to go fishing and stop watching stupid you videos.

It appears the two most hated things on this website are coming together. Googan is coming out with a NED BAIT! And it comes with a rattle!

The amount of money being made on YouTube is just stupid.  But we are the real idiots for sitting here complaining and being jealous instead of joining in on the cash grab.

Well, it's far from a "cash grab". The nature of the beast requires nearly constant uploading of "content". That is a time investment few people have, or can keep up. Considering how many fishing channels are out there now, one would need special content, a special personality (w/good content), stunts or other hooks, and keep it up, to build such an audience. Once/if you are able to build a large audience (doesn't happen overnight), then you may attract sponsors. Then your time must compete with added "unboxings" and advertisements shoe-horned into your "content". If you hang in there, and continue to build an audience, you may be able to create a wider business -maybe creating your own bait company? It's a "be careful what you wish for" scenario.

^^ This ^^  I've had my channel for 10 years now.  I have made over 600 videos (average of 1 video per week for 10 years).  I don't know about anyone else, but hours and hours of work go into nearly every video I make.  What do I have to show for it?

A few hundred dollars per month from YouTube.

Better than a sharp stick in the eye, but hardly a "cash grab".

The really $$ is in sponsorship, which is not stable income.  It's not something you can rely on, because it's a here today, gone tomorrow kind of thing.  It takes hard work to maintain partnerships, and even more hard work to obtain new ones.

I could cite more examples, but the bottom line is this: it's not easy money.

While I personally do not like the Googans, I have to commend them for being able to make a living off of what they do. If it were easy, there'd be a whole lot more of them around.

It shows.  The past year and a half, I've seen both a personality and editing style emerge.  Mixing dramatic, joyful catches with informational, didactic content.  Hats off indeed.

Never watched their videos but may have to give it a shot. I'm not really into a lot of these kids with youtube channels (I'll say kids lightly because I am still a millennial) because a lot of them are just flat out annoying big shots. The only channel I was hooked on for a while was the Linder's channel because I just like their style of multi species fishing, non annoying presentation and their educational nature.

As for any of these guys making a decent buck off youtube, more power to them.

What I don't get is why things like this bother people.  I think it's more of a you problem than it is a problem with the people you don't like.  Let them do their thing and you do your thing.  No reason to let silly things like successful YouTubers bother you.

Imho the "bother" is a now generation social media thing where everyone feels required to share their feelings on the internet.

Yep, just like I just did lol.

My parenting > youtube video

It's amazing what having conversations with your child can do

When I got into fishing I watched some of their videos before they became the Googan squad or whatever they call themselves.  Then I saw one of them do a video about being a military Vet in the Iraqi/Afghanistan occupation, then shooting guns and calling their video Hillary Clinton's Worst Nightmare or something like that.  Sorry, I don't want to see stupid videos like that when I want to watch fishing videos.  Guns are OK and I respect military veterans, but keep the immature titles away from me.

Still, the fishing industry is pretty low key with little energy.  It would probably be smart for the fishing industry to tap into the Googan squad.  We have to remember, video gaming is very addicting and keeps kids and adults from going outside and exercising.  If the Googan squad can encourage younger people to go outside and do things, in the end that's a positive.

I'm all for promoting kids and fishing, but these idiots are promoting fishing in places where they shouldn't and constant confrontation with property owners and law enforcement.. Thats not the kind of example they should setting for kids.

So what? I remove swearing and try and set good examples in my little videos. That's all I need to concern myself with. If some do not - pffft I couldn't care less.

People are too worried about what everyone else is doing these days.

They only care about making lots of Youtube money and do not care if they are giving a negative influence to children. They have potential to be positive role models for the fishing community but instead choose to stay true to the name they gave themselves. Googans will be googans and not much you can do to change that.

These type of threads do them more favours. You're giving them free advertising.

If you don't like it just move along, and ignore it. At the end of the day to each his/her own.
