Catt, curious about the sinker stop. What is its purpose?

I'm curious about it as well.  My guess is knot protection and a deterrent to gathering salad.

I do the same thing for the latter.  Works pretty well in several types of weeds, especially eel grass, which is a pain up here.

@J Francho, I'm gonna give it a shot.  We've got tons of greenery that gunks up on knots and hook eyes down here in the southeast.

I like about a foot up the line from the bait.  It's not fool proof, but works well enough that I use it often.

When the weeds are really thick, the only way to go is a hollow body frog something similar. You can try a swim jig too bit you may pick up too many weeds for it to be effective.

He can switch to a punching set up if need be. I used to do that when I didn't have a dedicated punch rod I would switch from a frog to punching rig on the same rod without having to remove the bobber stop. Pretty sure that's not @Catt's plan though.

Hmm, didn't think about that, I guess a bead would do the same thing.

A punch rig?  That's  swim jig head, not a Texas rig.  Anyone that knows Catt, knows he doesn't peg. ;)

LOL, That's why I mentioned "Pretty sure that's not @Catt's plan though."

My guess is it was left over from a previous rig . He just left it on there .

It was already on the line & I see no reason to remove it!

I do this too.  That's how I discovered the eel grass solution, lol.

At my age putting a bobber stop on 50# braid is a little time consuming!

The way I see it way would I take time to one on only to take it off when I change techniques?

I see leaving it on a plus 😉

Haha! Where you been? Believe it or not a smaller fish was grabbing that same bait, a little smallmouth shaking it like a terrier

This bait was posted here a couple of years ago. Works great on the outside edges and any lanes you may have.
