Found this in my reel...

Featured Replies

So I got a new spinning reel recently (Daiwa Procyon LT). Today I noticed it made a sound when I reeled in, so I opened it up and took the spool out. I found a weird looking wire just sitting on top of the washer on the shaft. (like in the picture below) It didn’t look like it was doing anything, so I took it out, and then the reel was perfectly silent when I reeled in. I couldn’t find the wire in the parts list I got, so any ideas on what this is or how it got here?

It's part #13, spool click leaf spring, on your schematic. Brian.

Ah, looks like it. Could you elaborate on what that is?

I think that’s a mangled drag clicker

Is that the same thing as a1712 said?

Yes, just like what @a1712mentioned, the spring where it make clicking sound, if you look underspool you will see groves that this spring ride on.

Too bad Daiwa does not make it easy to order parts, you will have to call daiwa directly or contact Tackle Trap to get the part for you. I hate daiwa just for this.

That's the semi-automatic gut-hooked smallmouth decoupler. Flick it once to release a deep hooked bass, without tools. It automagically resets, ready for the next one. Not sure how well it works on largemouth. You can still use the reel without it but you'll just have to remove the hook the old fashioned way.

Interesting. What exactly is the purpose of this thing?

It's so the drag clicks as a fish is pulling line. Brian.
