Deep Crankin from a Yak?

Featured Replies

Sure, you can fish just about anywhere in a kayak.

However, it seems to me that deep cranking - in the 15+ foot range - would not be common.

Anyone out there deep cranking out of their yak?  Any special considerations?

I do, however, there are times I wish I had a pedal yak for those occasions. (would make positioning easier)

Sure, do it all the time.

I do and it requires and anchoring system or pedal drive to be effective.

I do, but unless it's dead calm I anchor also.

Awesome guys. What kind of anchors are you using for this?

I just use a 3 lb grappling anchor.  It's doesn't always stick me to a spot but it slows me down.

I have an anchor trolly and use a 3.5 lb folding anchor.

I sometimes use my crank bait to steer my yak back where I want it pointed. I don't fish out of it much though.
