I have 2 of the above reels the 1000 and 2500 and I cannot seem to get their anti reverse working. I am going to try to clean and lube them the way it says on Shimanos web site. Both of these where purchased on Ebay.One the 1000 from a well known tackle store and the other was an Ebay store. I am also calling Shimanos North America number. The 1000 size is well past its warrenty but the 2500 size was purchased NIB last summer and I am sending in the warrenty card. Does anyone have any suggestions? thanks in advance

That's unusual to have two newish reels with anti-reverse issues.

I've had many shimano spinning reels and don't think I've ever had an issue with the anti- reverse.

I assume they are slipping and not catching.

Are you fishing in the extreme cold?

Simply flush the unit, swab rollers with light oil and replace. Make the the sleeve is right side up (wide top)and that if the schematic shows a collar on the actuator of the on/off that it’s present. 

Thank you both for the above responses I figured out what to do. I mounted the reel on the rod then flipped the bail and turned the handle DUH and now the both work after of course I cleaned and oiled the way it says on Shimanos website,
