First Kayak tournament Saturday (big temp drop)

Featured Replies

I'll be fishing a 550 acre lake in north central oklahoma. (Lone Chimney Lake)

Were expected to get a cold front with some rain on friday and the tempature is going to drop from  a high of 71 today down to high of 49 on friday. Saturday(tournament day) its supposed to be in mid 50s but the tempature at stsrt time will be 40 degrees.

My plan was to fish shallow and find some spawning fish with a jig, swim jig, and senko.

How should I alter my approach with the cold front moving in?

Thank you

I wouldn't change anything. Just slow your approach and downsize your baits

I have those same baits tied on for targeting Tennessee spawners.  I would add a bluegill colored prop bait or frog.  Hope you catch em!

Would you stay shallow? Lake is mostlystandi g timber and brush. Appreciate the response.

You can start by fishing shallow to see if they're still there but if you don't find them I would head out to some transition spots.  Find the points and some drop offs as the bass may be holding out there until things warm back up.

What happen to stay at home?

The beauty of a kayak tournament is that it's catch, photo, release. There is no need for weigh in or large gatherings. Really not sure why you commented.

Around here with those conditions I would look for cover that’s on top of some kind of bottom structure.

Stick to your plan, close to cover.

I was in the same situation this time last year.  Changed my plan, the guy who stuck to his plan, which matched mine, won. Lesson learned.
