Depends on what type of fishing your wanting to do. First off, straight 30 lb would way overkill, unless you were throwing super heavy baits, i.e. like 10 oz baits. So, I'm assuming your asking about a 10 lb leader be it mono or fluro to a 30 lb braid..?

Anytime you add a leader, that knot is going to be a weak point. If you tie a good knot correctly your likely to be o.k. I don't use leaders any longer. Anyway, 10 lb mono, or fluro to 30 lb braid would be fine. You didn't mention what rod and reel this would be going on, which could help, also what type of fish are targeting..? 

Brayden, don't look at the  line test. Look at the line diameter to make a match between mono/fluorocarbon and braid.

 

And please read what Hammer4 penned above, especially about adding a weak point to your line.

 

If you clarify what Hammer4 is asking we can all give you our input and you can experiment to find the optimum setup.

 

And if you do put on 30 pound mono please double check your rod's line test and bait weight parameters so you will enjoy the best setups possible and not break your rod.

 

30 pound mono would be good for salt water but it seems to be a little over kill for even Georgia bass. It is sort of like when Georgia plays LSU in those SEC title games. You want speed and performance from a lighter line and not a heavy line that will inhibit your bait's action and place your rod and reel in danger of malfunctioning. 

Yes, adding a 10# leader reduces your 30# mainline down to 10#.

 

Why use leaders opens up much discussion. This site shines a lot of light on the subject. 

 

I fish very clear water and and like braid, feel more confident with a Flouro leader, 15# braid to 8# leader mostly. 

A good knot and location of knot is important when using a leader. Imo

 

I wouldn't mess with a leader if you can live without braid or fish stained water.
