Bought my first boat today

Featured Replies

Hey guys bought a 1980 starcraft 17'aluminum vhull over the weekend and stripped down to bear bones and I am going to redeck and so-on my question is for all you experts for this season I will go elec. only so in your opinion what would you recommend for trolling motors the lake is only anot 700 acres any info would help

Thanks Kevin ;)

Get the biggest you can afford. Anything over 55 pounds will require 24volt (2 batteries). So you need to factor in that cost. Weight, Charging etc.

Congrats on the new boat!

Not only should you get at least a 24V motor, but one with digital variable speed (not a 4 or 5 speed). The digital motors are more efficient and will allow for longer run times. Plan on carrying extra batteries if you only have one launching location and want to fish the places further from the ramp. Getting the larger size (29, 30, or 31) would be a good idea too. Limit your navigation at the highest speed setting as that is the quickest way to run the batteries down.

Alright here is a thought and please respond if you think it isnt possible I stripped the boat to bare bone not replacing consoles just putting the floor back in with some storage area most of the time there will be 2 guys so here is the question since money plays a little factor I have a 55lb thrust for the rear 12 volt with 2 batteries I was thinking of a bow mount as well so to push as well as pull the boat with dual motors what do you think? anything will help
