Not the fish as we all know it's a LM.

I'm referring to this little red ball below the fish.

It wasn't there when I landed the fish and I wasn't throwing C-rig.

It just showed up in the photo. 20200531_091258.thumb.jpg.25fba9954e3cd5528fd9e16e1c841a25.jpg

Hmmm, don't recall the fish bleeding but that may be the only explanation.

Yep ^^ Look at the edges of the tail fin - ringed bright red from bleeding.

The two bass I caught yesterday (both about 2-3/4 lbs.) both had bleeding tails. I’m sure not from me. I’m guessing something to do with spawning?

Appears to have blood coming out of it's gills and running down it's side. Not a lot, but enough to produce a drop like that.

In the fins themselves there's no blood.

Bleeding from nest-sweeping comes from cuts & abrasions in the 'tail-stalk',

and is typically accompanied by a tattered and well-worn tail fin.

Blood caused by nest maintenance is usually thin & smeared, rather than full-bodied drops.

I asked Mr. Spock.  He said it was red matter.  If you're a Star Trek fan you'll get it.  Otherwise . . .
