Phenix M1 Casting rod 6'9" med lt

Featured Replies

Got a new reel and looking to get a jerkbait rod. The phenix M1 casting rod med lt looks nice but it's quite new and I'm not sure how it is for that type of application. Looking to throw out Megabass 110s and elbos so not too heavy of a jerkbait. Currently throwing it on my Megabass Levante 2019 flatside special which is doing great but I just want to see what the buzz is about a dedicated jerkbait rod. Any insights on that rod would be awesome.

Is the levante jerkbait special on back order again?  If you already are into megabass rods, why not the rod that was designed for the vision 110?

I actually got my levante back when it was released but with all the things I'm hearing about it breaking I'm a bit worried about getting another one even. Mine has probably been the best rod I've own so maybe I got lucky. Not looking to go too expensive otherwise I would get the orochi jerkbait rod. I've heard good things about the phenix m1 rods and $169 ain't that bad. Also I do like exploring other brands before sticking with one brand to try and find hidden gems among the bunch.

I love the Levantes. No issues.

I love mine too, going strong for a season now and I basically used it 90% of the time! But I do wanna explore phenix rods. Heard good things about them but this model is quite new. Don't know anyone around me who has tried it yet so I was wondering if anyone here tried it.

This. Mines is always with me at all times, I use it for all single hook applications. No issues here either.

I'm also intrigued by the new M1s.  I hear they run on the lighter side in the power department.  So a medium heavy fishes like a medium.  Pick one up and share your thoughts;)

That's very interesting. Gonna be fishing on the yak so hopefully the med light won't be too soft on me otherwise I could turn it into a bfs rod if it's too light.

I own a bunch of the older M1's and they do run light for their rating.  The rods have plenty of backbone though.  That being said I would not throw a Vision 110 on the older Phenix ML rods.  I've heard the newer M1's are more like other manufacturers but I have not held or tried the new ones.

Update on how the rod is so far. Been able to use it a couple of times and as of right now this rod is quite fun. Hook keeper is kinda at an awkward spot but they do offer two. One in the trigger and one at the handle. Sensitivity is good for the price. I was able to throw megabass 110s with no issues. Good backbone for a medium light but I wouldn't use it to fish thick covers. Was able to sorta rip lipless out of the grass which is nice as my G loomis e6 crankbait rod cannot and thats a medium. Not as flimsy as I would have expected it to be. I feel like it could potentially be a great small crank rod or jerkbait rod. Not sure if jigs would be good for it depending on one's hookset. Softer hooksets then maybe yes but trying to send that bass out of the water hooksets probably go heavier action. Will be using it a lot more and I'll try to give updates!
