2020 met is awesome

Featured Replies

So I have 1 curado k, 4 chronarch mgl’s, 1 bantam mgl, 1 16 met mgl and now the 2020 met. And you have to try it, it’s incredible. Casting distance is the furthest yet! Incredible solid, wildly smooth casting and retrieve. I like my 16 met, but love my chronarch’s. For the money I find the chronarch bullet proof and casting is amazing. This new met is leagues above everything else. I wish I could just replace the whole line up with Mets.... if only if only.

it’s also been the easiest reel for skipping. Almost every new reel hits the same exact rod and same exact baits to test retrieve, casting distance and try my luck at skipping. And so far tbis met is by far the best yet!

I took mine out this evening. Took a while to get it dialed in due to 25mph wind, but I was pretty impressed. It didn't wow me with distance, but some of that may have been condition related. My Tatula Elite was much easier to cast in the wind, I will add. The retrieve on the Metanium is ridiculously smooth though. I need more time to try out some other baits, but so far I like it a lot.

By all accounts they are great.  Between the new Met and the Steez a guy has two very good high end magnesium reels to choose from.  I would probably go with the regular Steez for jigs and plastics and Steez CT for finesse then the Metanium for everything else.  My only concern would be the gears developing buz over time.  Something about the newer Shimanos, even in brass gears, are developing a gritty feeling or losing that butter smoothness after what some report is very little use.  I've heard reports from both the Bantam MGL, K and Chronarch MGL.  Hopefully this new reel is immune.

fingers crossed cause I’ve invested lol. That being said my chronarchs get the hardest use I’d say and so far no issues what so ever. So hopefully the rest stay the same.

I had a tat sv and found it super easy in the wind but also found it too be there second pickiest reel I owned so I sold it. That being said once I got use to the svs braking system I haven’t struggled in the wind much. First thing I noticed was the distance I got out of this reel. Sitting on top of my nrx 853c I can bomb a senko roughly 20-25 feet further then any other reel that I’ve tried. I had a chronarch mgl on it for a while and I have a pond close to my house and constantly I would be 20 feet from the bank on the other side with a senko. With a 5/16 finesse jig and trailer  I would be 10-15 feet from bank. The 16 met mgl would be closer to 15 feet with the senko. Slightly further but not enough to make a reel difference I’d say. Well tonight against the wind and with the wind I cleared the pond on almost every cast effortlessly.
