I got some Rapala Mag ones that I am really, really happy with. They are angled a bit....the angle is really nice and helpful. Far better than straight pliers.

Stainless, angled, and spring loaded....all nice features.

Find something with stainless steel that won't corrode/rust. I just got a pair of these, they are kind of a surgical type pliers that you can safely remove a deep hook through the gills. I also have stainless multi-tool that you can pickup for cheap.

These are also stainless steel - have a pair clipped to my PFD with a retractable line. Aven model: 10314 electronic pliers.

I had standard 7" freshwater rapalas that lasted forever.

Recently picked up Shimano Brutas to be eligible for free shipping. The finish on the Shimanos is terrible and i dont expect them to last long.

Browning. 10+ years of use and no rust.

I have a pair of these and ones with the straight tip, they are great but I hate the grip on them

I have been using a pair of Cuda 7" ring split pliers for a little while now. They are carbon steel, painted black. The paint helps prevent the rust. I also put a light coat of oil on them which helps. The cutters on them are titanium bonded and cut through line with ease. They were only $12 so not to painful to replace eventually. I like them because they are not spring loaded.

My experience is that any piece of metal will rust/corrode over time if you don't take care of it.  I used to have an issue with losing my needle nose pliers.  I solved that issue by getting several pairs and leaving them scattered around my boat, so there is generally always a pair near where I need them.  This approach, while handy,  lead to a couple of pairs of Rapala needle nose pliers getting corroded, because they sat in a crevice of the boat too long.   I use a similar approach these days, but after each trip I put them back in the tool box.  I have 1 nice pair of needle nose, made by Rapala, it doesn't have the split ring tip on the nose, and I don't know where I got them and haven't seen a similar pair in a long time.

Harbor freight has decent needle nose pliers, but they will rust quickly if you don't take care of them.  I take care of mine by hosing them down with silicon spray a few times per year and that works ok.

Regular 7” channel lock needle nose pliers. I don’t leave them outside and they don’t rust.

I’m very satisfied with my Rapala tools. No rusting (only freshwater use). I take care of my stuff I don’t spray them down but once or twice a season.
