A famous Missouri fisherman, Virgil Ward, when asked what lure he would pick if he could only pick one said" a 1/8 oz black marabou jig".                             A partner I fish with recently made some nice marabou jigs. His are black, 1/4 and 3/8 oz, and feature a good quality Owner hook with a ball head.                                     He told me he caught many bass on these jigs years ago, rigged with an Uncle Josh U2 split tail eel trailer.                                                I've caught quite a few smaller bass on marabou jigs fishing them while crappie fishing in the spring, suspended under a float.                                                      The thing about marabou, is the action. Drop a marabou jig over the side of the boat, or in the shallow water while bank fishing, and try to hold it perfectly still. It's almost impossible. Marabou has a quivering action that responds to any movement.                                                We plan on trying them this fall, strictly for LM bass. Since pork rind baits are all but gone now, well come up with a good, thin trailer to use, and fish them super slow. I have a feeling they'll be good.                                     I know many smallmouth fisherman like hair jigs in general, but has anyone else used larger marabou jigs for LM bass?

I have never used bass sized marabou , but have a lot with crappie jigs . I caught one of my biggest bass with a yellow marabou right after ice out from a pond . You are right , just hold it still and they quiver . Good luck  and let us know how they work . Do they have a weed-guard ?

So far no weedgaurd. He'll probably get some bristle style guards to put on some later.

I just tied some up this weekend.  3/8 and 1/2 oz. with weed guards.   I used black with purple accent.  I suck at tying them and making them look neat, but they work.  I used some *** jigs I had.  They have the rubber weed guards so I figured the marabou would not stick in them like they would a fiber weed guard.

Just a side note...pork trailers are really popular among saltwater guys who throw bucktails.   Many have replaced them with a product known as otter tails.  Check them out.

I love tying. I tie a lot of steelhead,

brown trout and salmon jigs. I started tying  bass jigs last year. Nothing big but have caught some decent fish on them. One particular day last November,

only thing they would bite. I use rabbit zonkers, marabou, raccoon, arctic fox and a combo of each. I just recently got a gray fox pelt from a friend really pumped to

tie with it.  I also tie in a trailer.  Add saddle hackle, marabou or rabbit zonkers to make it look like a craw or minnow. But just a regular marabou body will work.  You can get weird with it, hahaa,

different color combos!  Styles and material. Each material looks different in the water. Like a cross cut rabbit zonker puffs up, but the marabou trailer adds

movement.   It’s really fun
