Is this knot a clinch knot? What would y’all call it?

 

Looks like a clinch. I personally moved from that to the Trilene knot where the line is doubled through the eye ... although i primarily use palomar whenever possible and fish n fool for braid

I use the improved clinch mostly.

You think he would have just used a hook for the video. 

i use palomar all the time, its the easiest and seems to be the strongest. 

AKA lose your crankbait knot.

Yep - clinch knot. A pretty basic knot that I rarely use bass fishing because of so many other better knots

That video takes the prize for how not to tie a knot.

I use a double clinch knot, also known as the Jimmy Houston knot.  A single clinch knot will slip with braid.   A Palomar works best with heavy mono.  

I do the wrap around 6-7 times, through the tiny hole, back through the loop, tighten down. Rarely break off on a fish.

I tie a IC knot many times. It's easy to tie, almost foolproof (although not per that video lol).

That is an improved clinch.  I use it with mono and copoly because it's fast and string enough for me.

That video was so horrid it was hard to tell lol.

That may be just one more of the various version of the infamous Might Knot. 

Might hold, Might not.

If you can't tie a knot,

tie a lot.

I haven’t watched the video but I have caught 30+ lb stripers with 12 lb mono and a regular clinch knot. Palomar

is too hard to bite through when changing lures 

   Some fishermen tell me that there are times when speed and ease of tying are more important than absolute knot strength. These are usually the same people who tell me about "the one that got away".      jj

Plenty of cutting tools all throughout my boat, including a knife always in my pocket. Still not as handy as the teeth in my mouth

I was referring to the quote, not the video.  The video is terrible for several reasons, though I can tell he's tying a basic clinch knot.

Not all clinch knots are the same for strength.  If that knot is lightly set, it most likely will fail.  If set really hard, lots of tension and push the knot down tightly, then more tension , wet of course, it has a much better chance of success.  But  it's not the best knot, not even close.

 

I've caught a lifetime of fish with the improved clinch with 7 or 8 twists but never have tried the regular clinch.
