I'm looking for some recommendations for some high action but small trailers for finesse swim jigs. Looking at the Rage Ned Cut R worm right now. 2"-3" would be my target size. Anyone have any suggestions to get some good thump in a small package?

Why not just a standard Ragetail Chunk?

Zoom Split Tail Trailers, my go to on spinner and chatter baits. Those two little 'legs' put off a tremendous amount of 'kick' without interfering with the natural action of the lure itself and have been far and away my best producer. Size wise this slender fellow also follows the 'less is more' approach so should be perfect in a finesse presentation.

Jigs will be this size class:

Zman makes a TRD minnow but not sure the action. Same with the TRD Bugz. But any of the SK Ned Rage are nice. The ned bug was surprisingly small and compact when i saw one in person.

At 2.5", they are about the smallest thing mentioned in this thread, plus you can pinch off one or two segments and thread them on the hook if you want smaller.  They will have more thump than anything else as well.

Worth a try! That'll be really wide which can overpower some swim jigs, but there's no reason not to test it.

When they're in the water, they swing together and make the signature Ragetail thump.  They're about as compact a double trailer as there is.  About the only thing smaller would be a small crappie grub with a sickle tail.

Not brand specific, just a generic crappie grub.

I'll give it a go. I've had Rage Lobsters overpower my regular swim jigs before, so I'm on the lookout for that here too.

Gotcha. Next year will be easier. I can just design what I need and pour them. I would like to have a wedge tail option some day as well.

Grab the 3.5 swammer from x-zone and bite off first couple segments. It’ll fit better that way anyway. Those have serious roll and thump and fit really well on finesse swim jigs. You talking like 1/4 oz swim jig? That was my most productive lure last year. 

Just thought of something when I read crappie. Fle-Fly Go Go Minnows are bigger than moat crappie plastics and really put out some action. Ive got some I use on Roadrunners and they look real good in the water.

No, 1/8 will be the heaviest. These are closer to micro swim jigs. 1/0 and 2/0 hooks.

 

I've considered just cutting down other trailers.

Check out Fitt Lures. Micro Predator Craw and Willie Wanna Be are perfect for those size jigs.

2.8" Keitech Fat? Or 3" Easy Shiner?

Those are interesting! I'm intrigued by the strand options. I may try that on some trailers using living rubber strands for accent colors.....

A regular 2 or 3 inch twin tail grub does a good job and helps keep the bait riding right. The 2.75" YUM craw papi is what I use on my 1/8oz micro jigs and the claws flap around quite a bit.

I don’t fish large baits too often. Jigs, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits are on the smaller side. Micro size I guess. I sort of fall in line with the guys posting with tipping with a grub. But I use a Zoom 4” Curly Tail Worm, sort of a finesse worm with a high action longer ribbon tail to it. I Bite the body length down to what I need.
