Where to find vintage/old fishing tutorial videos

Featured Replies

Where can I find old/vintage videos of bass fishing? Like 1970-1999. I want to learn how to improve my fishing from watching videos before all the fancy electronics. The videos on YouTube are very scarce. Maybe like some old episodes of Bill Dance Outdoors, Jimmy Houston Outdoors, etc.

Check out Lynn Dollars YouTube channel...he has over 500 old tournament videos from like 86-06...Flw, bassmasters and mega bucks.

Anyone who can consistently catch bass without electronics is a much better bass fisherman than someone who has to rely on electronics to find the fish. That is a fact. With that said most people these days are too lazy to learn how to read the water without electronics. A lot of old books teach how to find bass on a body of water without electronics so you can buy one of those books if you want.

With the price of fancy electronics these days, I think I'd rather learn to catch them without spending 1k on a fish finder with side scan.

Why do you think bass anglers in the 70’s didn’t use sonar units? I started in the early 60’s using both flashers and paper graphs. Today these are called tradition down looking sonar. Having a sonar unit with GPS is a real advantage to locate underwater structure where you actually are on the lake.

If you want to catch bass without any electronics learn to read topographic maps and visually study the terrain around the lake. This takes time away from fishing time on the water.

I suggest you start with my 1974 “Cosmic Clock and Bass Behavior Calendar”* to understand basic bass location vs seasonal periods, the basses calendar not yours.

I believe Don Iovino still sells a few VH S taps on bass fishing.

Glenn’s video’s on this site are presentation technique coving how to use lures and tackle without sitting looking at a sonar screen, I sure he uses sonar like everyone who bass fishes tournaments.

Try watching the BR video’s they are free.

I haven’t turned on a depth finder since october and success level hasn’t changed. The best way to learn is to get out there and start fishin. Work is what gets in the way!
