Dobyns Fury

I’m going to pull the trigger and finally try out a Dobyns Fury rod. I’m thinking I want to get something suited for jerkbaits. I have a jerkbait set up on the spinning side, so I’m looking to get casting rod. What’s your recommendation?

I'd go with the 703C - it's the one I got for jerks.

My jerkbait rod is the only BC rod I have that is not 7' or over

FR 705CB - Dobyns Rods. I have this one and love it.

All my canoe rods are 7'0" - my shore-fishing rods are 6'6"

That's my crankbait rod - I like a fast action for jerks...the 705CB is a mod-fast.

Likewise

I use my 705cb, 663c and 703c for jerkbait.

705cb is very forgiving for the trebles, especially when foul hooking smallmouth. I was losing these fish on the 03's. Sucks as I prefer the crispness of the three powers.

These three rods would definitely be the ones that you would want for a jerkbait. The 705CB will keep them pinned the best, but I like a rod with less backbone and a faster tip for bite detection when they hit it on the twitch, so the 663C or 703C would be better for that. And a shorter rod is nice - especially when I'm fishing on my kayak and not standing too high off the water, although I can make do with 7' if I have to.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up ordering the 703c. I’m looking forward to trying Dobyns rods. I’ve heard nothing but great things from all of you about them, so we’ll see.

That's a fairly versatile rod too, for throwing weightless soft plastics, jerkbaits, squarebills, 3/8oz spinnerbaits etc

Swap the spinnerbaits for lipless and that's what my 703 is designated for.

FR 703c was my 1st Dobyns, it's very versatile. I liked it for jerkbaits so much that I bought the 663c.

You'll enjoy the 703c, congrats!

703 Fury is my most reached for rod. I do all sorts of ridiculous things with it.    But I could never color within the lines. Last week I only had that rod and a spinning; so I caught my first punch-bait bass with it.  Ideal?  Nope..but the bass wasn’t a fan either way.   It felt wrong, but right..haha.
