I have a few of the 6” ones.  I thought a weighted 5/0 hook with the screw tip thing would work.  Not so much.  It appears the hook is too shallow, and affects the swim action.  Not to mention the hook probably would never pierce a bass lip.  It’s buried. 
 

how exactly are you all rigging this thing?  I’ve have ZERO experience using a bait like this.

Hookups are fine with an Owner Beast 6/0 i/4 oz weighted hook. Model # 5130W-046

I'm also running an Owner Beast 7/0. Better to have a little too much hook than not enough with a bait like that.

I use my frog rod, expride 7'3XH.  Bantam 7:1, 50lb power pro to 16lb sunline fc leader.

Thanks! Do you think I could get away with straight 15 lb. tatsu?  or would that be too light?

I do think you can, but heavier might be safer.  The freestyle doesn't get nearly as much head wag if the line is too heavy.  My guess is less than .40mm for best action.

Nice- tatsu tends to be really tough for its given test strength- so I think I will start there and see how it goes.  Now I need to select a rod and reel combo that makes sense in the scenario where I do think going up to 17 lb makes more sense...  Was thinking the 7'4" H/MF Poison Adrena (rated 3/8-2 oz.) paired with a 200 sized Zillion HD reel.  Does that sound like it could be solid for this application??  The mod-fast rod is so I can comfortably throw some smaller glide baits and also the single hooks.  Not ideal for either but passable for both.

I have a few PA's but not that one, so I don't know for sure.  I will say that if I had that rod, I'd definitely throw it on there to find out.  I have a 7'7" expride which is a H, mod fast, so it might be similar.  If it is, you really have to stick the hookset.  I did best with the reel down, and hard fast sweep. I think you'll enjoy it.

The advice on owner beast hooks is spot on. IMO 15 tatsu is too light for that hook, because of the stretch it'll have vs heavier line. That's a lot of hook to drive and you'll be happier with heavier line. Other brands 15 could be fine but Tatsu is pretty small at a given test relative to others.

I've not been able to find a spot online where it shows the individual names of the poison adrena rods- surprisingly it's not on any of the online shops and it's not on the poison adrena page on shimano's website... I talked to the guys at the hook up tackle and they said that this Poison Adrena may be a bit too parabolic for single hook applications.  Not sure what to think now  or what rod to look at.

If you’re set on the PA, the 7’6XH is a rod I was looking at. Ended up saving money and grabbing the expride version, 7’6XH. I would think the PA 7’6 XH is more versatile, the way they get such a light rod to be soft and strong at the same time is really unique. I make a lot of long casts with this bait. It’s quite a bit of hook and plastic to get through when you’re 30yds out there in the weeds. I prefer the longer, heavier rod for this reason. Both of these rods can light pitch.
