Connecting an onboard charger

Featured Replies

With a charger mounted on board boat, can it remain connected in the battery circuit when not charging?

The idea is to just connect AC power when dockside and not have to fuss with changing DC connections.

Yep .... leave connected to the battery.

X2 - Its what they are designed to do.

Those are one of the best inventions ever.  Once you have everything in place, I recommend spraying each connection with battery termial sealant.  It just helps keep it from corroding with all of the combinations of elements and charging you'll put its way.  Saves you some possible frustration in the long run and keeps everything looking nice.

X3.  My on-board charger stays connected 24/7/365 - unless I'm fishing.  As Tommybass said "It's what they are designed to do."

I try not to disconnect it, but I keep running out of extension cord.   ;D

He was asking about leaving it connected to the batteries at all time...not the wall outlet. ;)
