BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted June 27, 2021 BassResource.com Administrator Posted June 27, 2021 Might as well get the annual ball rolling on this. ICAST will happen July 21-23...the annual event where everyone in the fishing industry convenes to do business for the upcoming year....where many new product announcements occur (a preview for the following year, not available yet). It's a business convention for the people who work in the fishing industry. It is not a consumer show. Therefore, it is not open to the public (sorry). But the media folks will be there to bring you the latest and greatest without the expense of traveling to - and staying in - Orlando. a.k.a. FREE! That said, this year will be different. From what I know, this will be a condensed show as many companies are opting out from participating this year. Their reasons are varied, but it equates to less product announcements. Coupled with the fact that many companies are announcing fewer new products (or none at all) at ICAST, means a more subdued event this year. Covid is far from over, and the supply chain and manufacturing issues are causing havoc across nearly every industry, and fishing is no different. Many companies are struggling to meet current demand with no relief in sight, so they don't want it to increase because it results in poor customer experiences. They are aware most of you are experiencing long wait times for your orders, or products simply aren't available, and they don't want to make it worse. So...don't expect a ton of new products coming out of ICAST this year. To be sure, there still will be new products announced and I will be there to bring them to you. But I don't think it will be at the level that we've seen over the past years. Just level-setting expectations before the "Why isn't X company announcing any new products?" questions start. 3 2 Quote
detroit1 Posted June 27, 2021 Posted June 27, 2021 Bummer...i always looked forward to the coverage of ICAST, not that i really need anything new, but fun to look at the latest/ sometimes greatest stuff available to us. C'mon world....get your stuff together. Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted June 27, 2021 Global Moderator Posted June 27, 2021 There ya go Power Pole, you dodged another bullet for another year, now finish your damned trolling motor, you’re running out of excuses. Sincerely, COVID-19 ? 1 Quote
Super User Koz Posted June 28, 2021 Super User Posted June 28, 2021 It’s amazing that COVID is still impacting supply chains and especially labor. At my hotel we are setting monthly records for revenue, but I may have to shut down rooms because we don’t have enough room attendants to clean them. Absolutely ridiculous. 1 Quote

The employment rate is stabilizing in many states and is almost normal in some. They gave huge statistical numbers of people who have decided to make a go of it at home, one household incomes like long ago. Many of them women. They're finding out that if they stay home with the kids, the savings in child care don't warrant them returning to work. The rest of the people are cruising the job market and finding work they like better, or pays better, or is just not as hard for the pay they get. Right now it's a workers market. The jobs that no one wants are not getting filled. Quote
E-rude dude Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 The job market was short workers before COVID. Nothing has changed Quote

At least you aren't relying on getting your rooms transported on container ships, lol. I'm hoping that all these troubles and disturbances in the supply chain shake out to significantly increased domestic US production for fishing gear eventually. Won't happen anytime soon as raw material sounds like it's just as hard to get as finished products right now Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted June 28, 2021 Global Moderator Posted June 28, 2021 Have fun in Orlando @Glenn! 1 Quote
MAN Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 I received the attendee list and was quite surprised at the amount that were still attending. For me the biggest change will be almost no overseas vendors coming this time. Thats really the majority of my time there. So looks like 3 days of open walking this time. I better get some new inserts for my shoes. Quote

Yup, that and vendors from Canada too. But there's also a few domestic big names that won't be there, like Simms and Wiley X. I didn't see Strike King or Lew's either. Did you? Quote

No, but linen supply is back ordered 2-3 months waiting for the ships to come in and then the containers to finally be unloaded. I had to take my car in to be serviced today and all three shops that I received quotes from are backed up due to labor shortages. 1 Quote

Ah, that's right. It's confusing, because Plano is listed separately even though they were acquired by Pure Fishing. But I expected Lowrance/Ray Marine to be separate because their acquisition announcement was just made, but it's not finalized yet. Lots of moving parts. ? Quote

I thought FLIR was the original owner, lol. 1 Quote
