what you mean wasted?

The lure  is being retrieved in water that is not likely to draw a strike . Watch and listen to Glen starting at 12:55.

My precision casting is excellent. I can hit the only rock in one hundred yards to test the durability of a new crankbait.  I can catch a single limb 10 feet up a tree that even a bird would have a ha

  • I am such a precision caster.  I know this because I can quickly decide that, wherever my bait landed, is exactly where I meant it to go ?   Seriously, I get it exactly where I want it about

  • I'm not a great caster either but not terrible . I think most new anglers pay to much attention to lure colors and other things . They need to forget all that stuff and step up their casting game . Ba

If you just heard audio of my voice while I’m fishing would give you the answer.

Was that you I heard making those noises? Thought you might be calling the fish...........

There is something to be said for always using the same type reel (spinning) the same test and make line, and very similar weight plastic lures 90% of the time. Good.....nah but good enough to catch fish I suppose. I do practice however a couple times a week........

Alone in a 14' boat fishing from casting deck in bow all type casts are open to you to use, from the back with someone in front and rods in holders to contend with it limits you a lot. Did use my new dobyns sierra micro guide yesterday and wow that gave me something to recalibrate to by 10-12', came home and told the wife I might have to get some more of them rods.

oh I gotcha. Hell everything I do is either a roll cast or pitch anyways. To glens point, bomb casting to shallow water cover isn’t going to get you far.

Depends on the body of water & the population of bass on that body of water.

Very seldom if ever I don't work my lure all the way back to the boat. doesn't matter if I'm pitching or casting.

This especially holds true when fishing offshore structure but it works in shallow water as well. When I'm bank fishing I don't cast to an individual target & reel up to cast again.

This is one of two 7#+ bass caught directly under the boat after working a long cast to a drop off.

It was impressed on me at a very early age that casting accuracy was paramount to success when fishing shallow water targets. I still practice casting for at least 15 minutes a day in my backyard when I’m not on the water fishing. I feel like I’m still accurate in casting to visible cover out to about 45-50 feet. Since the vast majority of my fishing is in shallow water, casting accuracy serves me well.

Yet another bit of wisdom from you that I’m learning from.

ive heard working it back to the boat before, but something about 2 7lbers sends the message home

I don't know about "precision", but I'm pretty good. I can put the bait where I want it quietly with minimum backlashes. My weakness is light bait's (1/4 oz and lighter) and skipping using a baitcaster.

Precision? No, but can I hit the target? Generally, yes. My preferred fishing is floating shallow rivers, so the target can be as big as a rip rap bank or the dinner plate size pocket behind a boulder just off current. I can generally hit those while floating by.

Not me, I hit the bank, weed mats, bushes, tree limbs, docks, boats trying to hit the water at night and occasionally in good light.

and occasionally giant bass right?

I usually work it all the back to the boat if that is at a depth that will hold fish. I could be fishing parallel to a bank less than a boat length from the bank and be over 35' to 50' though and then I might fish it a little ways and then reel it in to cast at the shoreline. Did that two days ago and a bass ate my texas rig roboworm within 10 feet of the boat. I actually got a couple more similar strikes like that on that day.

YES, I agree with that ~ I cast better at longer ranges 50'+ than I do up close. In fact I don't even like being up close, I don't want the fish to know I'm there. I'm pretty good at Hail Mary bombs right up to a big lay-down or the bank.

Bombing your targets will lose you fish. Up close pitching came about not just for accuracy but for soft entry. Soft entry is very important.

I should pick up golfing since I'm good at hitting the green

Some days I’m better than others, but I do try hard to be an accurate caster.  When I get in a zone it’s turns out to be a great trip regardless of the bass caught!

I am a better precision caster at 200 feet and at 20 feet than I am anywhere in between.

I am really good with a spinnerbait for accuracy and can hit within 12" of where I am aiming most of the time.  Now a spinning rod who knows where that bait is going.

I dont know about you guys but when using a baitcaster , if I'm using to light a weight , I will usually miss to the left. To heavy and I will miss to the right . I dont carry a couple dozen rods like the pros , where I can match the rod to the bait . I carry a handful so I have to match the bait  to the rod .

With a spinning rod, yeah I am pretty accurate with my casts.  Baitcaster, still a work in progress, have only been fishing baitcasting equipment for a fews years now so still learning.  Although if I would fish more I would probably get better at it!  Haha
