Tracker Pro 175 TXW Transducer Placement

Featured Replies

Picking up my new to me boat in the morning. It still has the stock cheapy sonar and I want to put my Humminbird on the transom. I have always mounted my Garmin's and Bird transducers on the bottom right side of the outboard but all the 175 TXW's I've seen with the stock ducers are mounted at the bottom left side. I'm pulling the stock mount and plugging the holes and will use a polycarbonate plate to mount the new one. Just wondering if theres any special reason to mount the new one on the left.

In the past transducers were usually mounted on the starboard. (right side if standing behind boat looking forward.)

This puts the transducer on the downstroke side of the outboard. This was to minimize turbulence on the transducer from the motor. In all honesty I don't know if it makes much difference. I have not noticed any turbulence when running the boat in reverse, which would put the transducer on the upstroke of the outboard.

I put my garmin Sv transducer on the starboard side in line with the trailer bunk. No issues at all. I have a 175 txw as well.

Guess I'll mount it on the starboard side, can't wait to pull the panels and fish the cables through.

The fish tape really helped. Decided to mount the transducer in the stock location for now. Spent most of the day trying to rig a mount for the helix 7 transducer, there was no room for the plastic pos mount that came with it. A trip to the hardware store for some rubber washers and maybe the stock location will work, if not I'll plug the holes and do battle with the plastic mount on a mounting plate.

Picked up a RAM mount and made a little kydex cover plate for all the old crap. I drilled the RAM mounting holes through both Kydex and console plastic. I dressed it up with some rivets. Bored out the stock cable pass through and made an insert to secure some wire loom to for the new transducer and power cables to the unit. Looks pretty classy in my opinion.

Nice job. ?

Looks real nice @Functional.

Thank you both...I just now realize he was talking about the transducer the whole time and not the display. My little job wont do anything for that. Going to have to brush up on my reading comprehension!

Looks great, I just red necked it and ran the cables behind the ram mount base for now. Might copy your work when I get more free time. The Garmin plate and rubber washer mount is working for now, still would rather epoxy a mounting plate for if I decide to run  Garmin livescope for crappie next spring. Says my files exceed the limit and wont let me upload pics.

Where can I get some of that kydex? All I can find is half inch around my area.

Just type "Kydex Sheet" on ebay and you get all colors, patterns, etc. They come in different thickness, what you see above is 1/8" thick or .125". For the work above it really serves no structural purpose so .080 should be fine.

Amazon sells it as well.

Thanks, been wondering what thickness you used.

Yup, just leftover from when I did the mods on the front of my tracker or I'd have done it in .080 most likely. Cheaper and easier to find.
