got a new toy

Featured Replies

Found a 13.5 jon boat on craigslist, made the trip to pick it up.  Not sure of a brand or model the registration is pretty generic it just says  " jon boat  1970"   I got this boat for pond use and small lakes.

The bottom width is 33 inches and its  46 across the top,  I know decking this  is out of the ?  but do you think carpeted bottom inserts and carpeting the bench seats would add too much weight,  I  am also thinking of getting  a bulldog foot controlled tm,  Is there  any equation for figuring out how much weight this boat can hold?   Thanks

Carpeting is a good idea. Jons are notoriously noisy. A trait of light aluminum boats. Carpeting won't add much weight. Use the lightest weight carpeting available

As for capacity, since there isn't a placard on it that tells you load and hp capacity, check out similar sized jons for the safe load rating. At least you'll have a ballpark number.

I agree with Rhino about researching other similar sized jons to find out your boat's capacity.  MG Bulldog foot controlled TM are a bit pricey at $380.  Another option would be to buy a used tiller TM and a ProControll foot control adapter ($150).

Thanks for the information guys,  I didn't know the transom mount foot controll existed.  That will save some money,  I will need some for a decent FF still trying to decide what kind to put on.
