I know this is a bass fishing forum but have you tried Seaguar Trout/Steelhead fluorocarbon line? What do you say about it? I'm wanting 6 pound test for trout fishing.

   The only Seaguar fluorocarbon I have ever seen (and I haven't seen everything) has been leader material, not mainline. Leader material is liable to be much, much different than mainline. Is there a fluorocarbon mainline from Seaguar that is labelled Salmon/Steelhead?                jj

I have been interested in this line as well, but haven't been able to try it.  I've been using Invisx, Tatsu, and Blue label leader for years and recently added Gold label leader.  They all perform excellent.  The "trout" I fish for are not little.

Yes, I mostly fish for stream trout, 2-3, pounds maybe, 7" ultra light rod. the Seaguar Trout/Steelhead is only a couple of dollars more than Trilene XL for 10 yards less line, but it is 100% fluoro.

Yes, they sell it (in the store I go to) as a 100 yd spool for 10 bucks. Maybe 11. Trilene XL is $7.99

Looks like rw moved it.  Moderator discretion, but in general if it's not bass related, it falls here regardless of if the topic is for a boat, line, rod, reel, lures, or the other species.  Those sections above are bass specific.

It's Seaguar's fault for naming the line. 

 

You would hope it has improved cold weather and cold water properties.

Yes, you're probably on the right track with the colder water thought.

I've used it for both a main line and leader and much prefer it for a leader.  The leader material is good stuff, but it is pretty stiff compared to the main line and thus more abrasion resistant.  As far as it being a main line, I couldn't tell any difference between it and Red Label.  I typically run 8 or 10lb braid for my main line and a good 6' worth of 6lb STS for leader.  The knots hold very well and it has performed wonderfully when fish have made a run for the wood.

OK so, I'm learning that the 100 yd is leader material and the name is STS for salmon, trout, and steelhead. I picked up some last night and I've decided to use it as long leaders with a braid main line.
