AGM IS a lead-acid - just that it's got 'glass' mats that hold the acid in place preventing sloshing

Not a total expert but I think it's effective and safe at jumping both.

I was just reading the owner's manual on it...actually the GB40...and it said to use only on lead acid batteries.

 I'm running Optima Blue tops 31M.

These unit's are constructed of 99.99% pure lead. 

The Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) separators hold electrolyte like a sponge to eliminate acid spilling.

Standard wet-cell - old tech, acid sloshes around in the case - Lead-Acid

AGM - glass mats to hold the electrolyte more-or-less in place - Lead-Acid

All three are 'lead-acid' batteries - just different ways of holding the acid in the case.

I have the boat pulled out of witer storage. & into the water. They have a battery problem?

I have a battery problem. Load test the battery. Low ?  Do a full charge & cell water check . Good? Do another load check For a larger battery size or 2 larger. Still good.   Done

 

Never had a sudden dead or dying  battery. in 70 ? years. Cars or boats. They normally give warning. IF  IF you keep the water in the cells correct all year every year.

Great for wet-cells - AGM and Gel are sealed...no way to add more to the electrolyte.

Should work on any 12V battery.

I read it quickly, but I think it meant jumping lead acid batteries only. 

 

It comes with a usb attachment and you can use it to charge you cell phone, iPad and such. I’m pretty sure my cell phone battery isn’t made with lead acid. I could be wrong, just ask my kids and wife.  

Some of those power-packs for jumping have a circuit in them for the USB plug designed to charge the lithium batteries in phones/tablets/etc without issue.

 

The main connections, however, ARE for Lead-Acid only as Lithium 12v batteries aren't designed to take the surge of current.

 

They're also not designed to give up a surge either...which is why they're not used as starting batteries.

I’ve read thru my OM and it states just what JM stated. You can charge your Phones and IPads etc. But you can’t jump start a Lithium battery with the main cables. Lead acid only.

I suspect that's more for lawsuit protection.  Not that it's going to damage anything if properly connected, it's the world of s***t you can get into if not properly connect.  If you cross connect to a lead acid battery, you get a big spark.  If cross connect to a lithium, you also get that same big spark, but there is a possible battery explosion and fire to go along with that big spark.  Shorting a lithium battery is dangerous business, especially since they are usually located next to a fuel tank.

You MUST  MUST be PERFECTLY CORRECT .....BEFORE>>>> connecting  ANY type of  Lithium TYPE of battery. 

DO NOT SCREW UP !!  You can do a heck of a  lot of car damage if you do it wrong.

Santa dropped one of these off for me for xmas.  I got the GB40 model.

 

I've been looking through the manual, charging it, and looking at its features.  Seems like a nice piece of equipment.  I like how it has the flash light and the USB slot built right into it.

 

Although I haven't had battery trouble in some time, you never know.  I might buy another one for the wife's SUV at some point too.

Small price to pay for total peace of mind.

It'll start anything you have.

Mine is either in the boat or the truck so I always have it with me.

Hope you never need it but you'll be glad you have it if & when you do.

Sent my brother one he uses it to charge his cellphones.

You may end up 'helping' someone else out of a jam as well.

My boats have zero dry storage so I keep jumper cables. (And of course paddles)

 

reading back thru this old post, one simple piece of advice for people worried about frying their electronics: unplug them before jumping. My boss harps on that like a broken record for the radios in our work trucks. Always unplug before jump starting 

 

I had to do the whole Pull rope on the fly where before. Needless today after that day I got a new cranking battery.

At least it worked! I swear as kids we swam the family pontoon boat a hundred miles with ropes tied to our feet when it wouldn’t start. And that was often! (It wasn’t ever the battery but still….. haha)

Well the roughest part about a jet is they do not have a gear box. There is no neutral. So I have to turn the motor over with the drag of the impeller through the water. 
 

maybe your parents just wanted to tire you out so you slept all night lol.  I do see a lot of people have issues starting their boats. If I am having an issue at the ramp I’m sure as heck not leaving it.
