Lake Trout Trolling with dipsey diver

Featured Replies

Hi!

Looking for adivce on upgrading my trolling setup, i'm planning on fishing with dipsey divers. I was looking at the Shimano TDR 8.6ft/9ft Medium, paired with the Shimano Tekota TEK400HGLCA or TEK500HGLCA not sure about the difference except size? I will mainly be fishing lake trout between 30-75 feet deep on smaller lakes. Does anyone have any advice or different combo set up to suggest, fairly new to trolling lake trout.

Thank you!

My Father in-law who had a home north of Nester Falls, Lake of Woods slow trolled summer Lake Trout at Crow lake using 8 oz dropper rig, 50 lb small D braid with a 4’ 20# mono leader about 3’ above the weight, 3-way swivel, with 6” -8” Silver plated thin flutter spoons. Let the weight down to the bottom anywhere from 200’ to 75’ depending on sonar marks. The other method was vertical jigging using Heddon Sonar lures. Drop the lure down to the bottom and reel it back up. Both techniques work good for trout 10 to 20lbs.

Spring ice out my Father in law bank fished casting fresh dead sucker chunks using a lake rig into deep holes near saddle areas by islands. This is the technique used for big trout 20 to 40 lbs at various fly in lakes.

I have trolled Pink Ladies similar to Dipsey divers for Salmon in PNW, your need a good rod holder!
