Would you think this is a call for a mh fast action rod or a hvy action fast rod. Normal worm weights but 10-12 inch worms 

 

sorry if this is a question for the rod forum didn’t think about it to after I posted it 

I fish mine on a 7ft. MH/F rod, but I rarely use a weight over 1/4oz. and I don't use heavy wire hooks. I'm sure the same rod would work well with heavier weights and hooks.  This is my regular worm rod and I don't switch out to something different just because I'm using a longer worm.

This is a good suggestion and exactly what I do.

It depends on which 10"-12" worm you're talking about. If it's one of those jumbo senko types, then heavy. If it's a ribbon tail like a power worm then any MH I happen to have with me. No problem using a stouter MF either. Bullet weights are a no-go here. I usually go weightless, but I do use tungsten pagoda/nail weights also, usually one or two 1/16oz inserted toward the head between the hook's bend and the spring keeper.

Your standard 1/2 jig rod works good, that is all I used for 5 decades with soft plastic worms 9” to:13”. I prefer a sliding bullet weight anywhere from 3/16 to 1/2 oz depending on depth and wind. 5/0 to 6/0 straight round bend for worn under a 1/2” diameter.

Ditto, except I seldom have a need to go over 1/4 oz, due to the depths of the water I fish. Also, haven't been doin it for 50 years..........yet..lol

same but with dobyns 704. Dobyns 703 was a bit light for the bigger stuff. 

The length of the worm doesn’t matter as @papajoe222 said.
Totally depends on where I’m throwing it.  In scattered to moderate vegetation from weightless to maybe 1/2 oz then a MH should work alright.

For that I use a MH/XF Tatula with 20# Shooter

 

In thick, heavy stuff I use a Dobyns Mag/Heavy with 65# braid or my punch setup with 80#.

I use a PA 6'11M+ w/ an owner 7/0 owner oversize offset worm hook w/ 8-13" worms and have great hookup ratio.  That Tat looks very similar in specs but I don't have any direct experience.

I agree.

I use a MH/Fast with 12-15lb FC and 5/0 offset worm hook or for heavy stuff I like a 1/4oz shakey head. If there is wind or current moving the water, just some slight bumps up and down can get a lot of movement on a big worm.
