Floating braid

Featured Replies

Can I use braid that states it is floating braid for bottom baits like jigs, or is this line particularly for top water?

Braid floats, but it's no big deal. It is fine for bottom contact.

Like roadwarrior said, most braid floats (I think a few companies have come out with sinking braid). But that doesn't mean you can't use it for bottom contact baits. Tons of people do. If you're fishing around rocks tho you may wanna add a fluoro or mono leader.

Sufix 832 floats less due to the gore fiber. I fish 50lb all day long in rocks without a problem with 3/4 football head jigs. I found myself retying just as much with mono and flouro if not more.

Same story with 40# 832. I definitely re-tie less with the braid. What I've found is that it's plenty abrasion resistant but less cut resistant. It doesn't hold up well to teeth or getting pulled tight against a sharp object.

It's OK but I don't like it around wood which is everywhere in lakes I fish. I do use it in heavy cover. It tends to cut through weeds really well. I like 40lb or 50lb for grass jigs, swim jigs, and a punching rig.

Absolutely. You can drag it on rocks all day but a sharp edge will slice it.
