Day 5 of no power with at least a couple more days to go with 10-12" of additional snow forecasted for this weekend. Lost 4 big oaks, 2 fences from 2 of those oaks and a chicken coop. We love the snow but have are really ready for spring now! Never like scanning the yard and finding a horizontal tree... What’s your total snowfall for the year so far? Our horizontal trees and power outages were due to freezing rain over the past two weeks.

Up until a few years ago we lived another thousand feet up in elevation and our biggest snow winter was north of 240". I do not miss those days! We've never had to deal with freezing rain out here, but strangely we did just have some forecasted that fortunately didn't develop. Can't imagine what that would be like... photos and videos I've seen make it look like an ice rink everywhere it touches.

Thankfully the ground was warm enough so the roads didn’t get bad, but it stuck on the trees and everything else. By morning everything was covered in ice and by early afternoon it had all melted. It was pretty wild, trees and power lines were down all over. Had you not known there was an ice storm you would’ve thought a severe storm had rolled through. I see Donnor pass has been getting pounded with snow.
Super User Log Catcher Posted March 5 Super User Share Posted March 5 Our winter day yesterday turned into a major windstorm. We had temp of 81 and winds of 78MPH. It took out a big maple tree across the street from me. Luckily it fell on to another Maple tree to hold it up. It did not hit the house. Lot of damage and power outages throughout the county. Last I heard there were 42,000 people still without power. Have been very lucky and kept our power on so far. I tried to post a picture but I can't get it sized right to work. Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted March 5 Global Moderator Share Posted March 5 Lots of folks here without power from Friday afternoon until some point Saturday, some winds of 90 mph were reported. My power somehow stayed on throughout

Super User TOXIC Posted March 16 Super User Share Posted March 16 Here in Virginia it’s been crazy windy and cold for us but nowhere near as bad as it’s been both north and south of us. I need a break so I’m loading up the wife and truck and heading to Cresent Beach in Florida next week. I’ll spend a week in the sand and hopefully spring will have sprung more permanently when I get back.
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 16 Super User Share Posted March 16 Got slammed with a wet, slushy, sloppy nor’easter the last few days. What a mess. 2 week forecast calling for lots of high 40s and low 50s and rain, so I really hope we’ve finally arrived at spring.

Super User Bird Posted March 19 Super User Share Posted March 19 Here in Western VA we've been dealing with extreme winds and below freezing temps at night. I was shocked to see how fast the water temps dropped in 1 week......51* down to 42* and that brought on lock jaw.
