Speed Craw on a Shaky Head

Featured Replies

Hey y’all,

I know a guy that uses the zoom speed craw on a shaky head and claims that it is consistently one of his best producers year round. He will go behind boats in his kayak and clean up after them, catching some very respectable fish. I’ve fished with him before and call him the shaky head wizard, albeit when I fished with him he was using a finesse worm, not the craw.

If anybody uses this bait on a shaky head and has been keeping it secret, want to know if you will spill the beans. I want to know what’s up with this bait and how you like to use it

I do it a lot.. The speed craw works really well on a shaky head.

I use the chompers 'rock walker' jighead.  I gave one rigged up to a guy and his 4yr old son at a local pond, and 5 minutrs later he hooked his PB of 4.5lbs.

A shaky head is just a jig head with a t-rigged plastic. When I'm on the bottom, dragging, or hopping, a speed craw it is hard to beat, it will also catch fished through the water column, but I find other plastics better for that.

Green pumpkin/blue pincers on a 1/4 Siebert tungsten shaky head on a Champion 733SF with braid to leader.  Sweet.

The only 2 soft craw immitations I throw is speed craw and baby brush hogs...... Texas or shaky.

Others work better for trailers. Imo

I've had good luck with a speed craw on a shakey head but my go to is usually a junebug trick worm.

Davey Hite was on a Yamamoto call in live event last night and he was demoing some new products and he rigged up the new Yamacraw on a shakeyhead and said it is a killer bait because it falls straight down whereas a kut tail or other worm will fall at an angle.  I immediately added some Spot Sticker shakeyheads to my punching box that has Yamamoto Cowboy, Mermaid and Flapping Hog baits along with some discontinued 7.5 inch Kut Tails.  I have not ordered any of the new craws yet.  This is for Florida at the end of the month.

DO NOT put a Magnum Speed Craw on a Shaky Head and throw it on deepwater structure at night during the Dog Days of Summer.

I fear the bucket mouths.

A baby brush hog works really well on a shakyhead. The Zoom Mag Finesse worm and Berkley Flute worm are my favorites on a shakyhead though.

I've had success with a speedcraw on just about every rigging method.  My favorite is on one of the Split shot/Mojo/Carolina rig setups but it justs a great bait so which ever one you choose will probably work.

What size head do you like to use?  I’m assuming a heavier 1/4 oz or more and a thicker wire hook.
tacklehd.com has some magnum speed craw type deals on sale for $1.50/8!

He said DO NOT……. ?

A Zoom super speed craw on a 1/8 oz Owner shakey head has been one of my best techniques for 5-6 yrs. Works great in 5 ft of water or less. The 6” Zoom ultra vibe speed worm is another great bait for shakey head.

Yamamoto small craw on a shakeyhead has worked well for me.

Zoom Ultravibe Speed Craw in Green Pumpkin shade of your choice , 1/8th ~ 3/16th oz. shaky head of your choice that fits , FC leader (8 lb. Sunline Sniper) to braid main line (15 lb. Power Pro) ... Fish with short drags - then pop it with a couple of quick short jerks then let it settle back to the bottom and dead stick for 20 seconds before repeating the sequence . *Visualize a craw on its trek across the bottom when something startles it , the craw leaps up before it glides back to the bottom and sits in a defensive posture. A bass may hit the craw at any time in the drag , short leap . glide , dead stick process.
