Abu Garcia Silvermax anti reverse

Featured Replies

I have an old Abu Garcia Silvermax and recently the anti reverse has stopped working sporadically. I'm assuming over time it's gotten dirty and maybe too much oil build up over the years.  My question is, and I'm assuming here, is the anti reverse located under the plate on the handle side? And if so, is it much of a task to take that plate off to clean it and put back on? Thanks fellas!!

If this is your reel, it's easy to get to, it's in the main shaft stack.

That's what I did. Got a new one, was going to keep this one for a backup. Just tinkering with it. Thanks Bulldog!!

99% of AR issues can be corrected with cleaning and proper lubrication. Causes of actual damage include neglect, locked drag, corrosion among other things.

Yes, Delaware. It started doing it back in the dead of winter when it was cold.  This morning when temps were in the 40's it did it.  This afternoon with temps in the 70's I could not make it do it.  Makes me believe it's just dirty and built up crud from oil over the years.

I would also be careful about using too much grease on the gears/drag stack as it can migrate into the inner AR sleeve and cause issues.
