The pattern variety is shocking at launch. They are riding the hype from the dark sleeper. Both the gill and craw were announced at the same time with the craw now just making it to market
Super User Jrob78 Posted March 24 Super User Share Posted March 24 The Dark Sleeper and Sleeper Gill have been good baits for me. I picked up a handful of Craws to try out. We'll see if they produce like the other 2 have.
Super User NorthernBasser Posted March 24 Super User Share Posted March 24 Despite being a fan of the Dark Sleeper and Sleeper Gill, I told myself I was gonna pass on this one. Without getting it in hand, it just didn't do anything for me. But Mr. Monkey said "I don't think so". I just ordered a few. Sadly the few red colors are out of stock. TW, Omnia and BaitWrx all have some in stock right now.

heavyduty
I'm a fan of the Nikko craw. I can choose my weight depending upon current, using a sled jig. I'm sure these sleeper craws will work but I don't see them replacing the Nikko.
Jmurphy87
They are very very soft, a very large cavity near the hook. The claws are split and hollow in the middle. I think hookups will be very good due to the softness, but you are going to burn through them extremely quickly. This is my observations from taking mine out of the package and examining it.

I don’t think that there made out of elaztech, will probably be durable but from what I have noticed I question if they will hold up for extended periods. I have had good luck with the dark sleepers, some reported issues with them durability wise also. Just in my opinion the sleeper craw just feels like it is not going to take a lot of abuse before they lose there weed less ability. On the one I got the hook set’s extremely close to the top of the fin that makes it weed less. Once I throw it and try to get it hung up in cover I will know more. And then snip the claws off these. So with what you said and the Berkley claw experiment, let me time travel you from when that experiment happened to the present, now. Check out the Fish Arrow Heavy Poop Stick Bait and the Deps Cover Scat. I reckon the Japanese anglers caught on with this experiment and introduced these 2 baits but are heavy that they can cast far without using additional weights. It's like using a Fat Ika backwards for better casting distance. They also have a gliding down look similar to a craw or poop in the water. Look at pics of those 2 baits and both look similar to a craw without claws. VOILA! Now you have 2 Japanese lures that cost more(expensive) than your average craw lure with claws!

Fair, but if I recall correctly when they cut the antennae off it got less bites. Maybe I should put some skirt material on the end of a poop arrow/cover scat/etc. Or maybe this is why the Ika works so well.

Super User NorthernBasser Posted March 29 Super User Share Posted March 29 I got mine in the mail today. Those claws are definitely buoyant, causing the bait to stand pretty much straight up. After further inspection I noticed if you open up the claws, there's an actual hole/cavity in between. I was able to fit worm rattles in each claw. I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned in any of the videos I've watched ort articles I've read. That clicking sound could really improve the bait, especially in stained water. In this pic you can see the right claw has a rattle in it, while the left claw doesn't. It keeps the pinchers more open. You may have to add a tab of glue before inserting it to keep it from coming out easily. Now, this does change the buoyancy of the bait. It no longer stands straight up, but the bait does still fall down/over slowly once it hits the bottom. I'm not sure how weedless this bait will be. I can see it snagging on wood easily the same was the Dark Sleeper and Sleeper Gill does. Especially once the bait starts getting beat up. I see it excelling more around rock.
Super User Jrob78 Posted March 30 Super User Share Posted March 30 I got mine today too. The claws are interesting, I haven't heard anyone mention the way they open up either. The body is also very hollow and could easily be filled with scent. These are a little smaller than I expected but they do look good. I agree that they won't be very weedless around wood.

Same almost. I hooked into a nice one on the first couple of casts but lost it on the way in. I haven't caught anything since. I have better luck with the Megabass Rock Hog. FishTax
I was at Academy today and noticed they have the H20 version of this available. I don't remember the price but I don't think it was too expensive. I escaped without getting any, figured it probably looked better to me than a fish somehow.
