New Yamamoto Bait

Featured Replies

I know there’s been a bunch of online hype about Yamamoto coming out with a new bait.  Well, it debuted today and lo and behold, it’s not really a new bait but one that has been on the JDM market for a while.  I’m not promoting because I haven’t had a chance to fish it yet but it seems to fall somewhere between a fat Ika and a grub.  For me, it’s too big for a dropshot or Ned and too small for weightless.  Seems some have weighted it and some fish it weightless.  There’s plenty of vids out there if you want to go look for them.  I’ll just give you a glimpse into what they look like.  The ones I got from a friend in Japan are smaller and are packaged in the Japan only bags.

I’ve found good success with the Owner Beast twist lock - 4/0    a regular EWG works but it tears em up pretty quick - with the twist you can get 5-6 fish on a single Yama-Dookie

  • These are big, heavy hunks of plastic. A Fat Ika and 5” Senko for comparison. The big hook slot runs on both sides of the bait. These will cast a mile and they look awesome. I have high hopes for this

  • Yamatanuki played cleanup yesterday. I see little bass playing/nipping the tail, but all the 1+ pounders grab and don't let go. Use the Ryugi Infini 4/0 for Yamatanuki, which is what I use for Cover S

I guess it's called the Yamatanuki .

Should be interesting if it's a fish catcher :)

So top water AND bottom contact?...

Looks like a pintail on steroids.

Looks like a variation on the Deps Cover Scat or "high specific gravity" worm. I'll definitely be grabbing some of these

Funny, my Japanese friend said the translation is Raccoon Dog. ?

Running out of shape options.  Will still catch fish though

Bait looks interesting, I just don't picture myself asking my buddy "hey, pass me a Yamatanuki please"

Yep. There are only so many ways you can mold plastic. But every way will still catch fish.

Yeah.  It's a real type of wild dog over there that actually looks a whole lot like our raccoons over here.  Legend says they bring good luck and prosperity.  But it also says that they like to pull pranks on people.

So buy the Yamatanuki at your own risk.  It could bring you good luck.  Or it could play tricks on you.

When I toured the plant a number of years ago, the Japanese only section had 100’s of baits we don’t have here.  Some of the shapes would amaze you, especially that they catch fish. ?

Looks just like the Neko Macho that came out several years ago. I think I have

all 14 colors.

One of my favorite baits. As well as the Fat IKA.

Which means, of course, I’ll be trying these lol.

Designed to be fished weightless ( 5/8 oz) with 3/0 off set hook in belly slot.

Tom

I’ll try It for pitching around weightless. I bet It works good in heavy cover.

Thanks for the info.  I might have to give it a shot.
