digitalvoid
I'm looking at purchasing a Fine Tail Area Trout rod this year and would like to find a reel to use with it. I'd love to get a JDM reel as well, but that's not an option since I'm getting the rod. Are there any reels state side that I could consider that would have a shallow spool or super shallow spool? Looking at a 1000 size or possibly 2000 size. I've also tried to find spools for my Revros LT, but haven't found anything. The main reason is I'd like to try some Varivas ester line. If I can't give find a reel or spool for my Revros, I'll just use backing on it, just don't really want to do that. If I had a line counter it would make things a lot easier. One last thing, since I just remembered, is there a specific tool to use to check and set your drag? TIA and tight lines!
Super User bulldog1935 Posted March 22 Super User Share Posted March 22 not sure which question you want answered, but here are all the spool options for your Revros LT, available from JDM. https://www.hedgehog-studio.co.jp/product/4747 Consider that Japan offers 5 times as many different models of the same reel, vs. the few deep spool models that are imported to USM. If your Revros is 1000, JDM offers LT1000S spool with 100-m 2.5-lb mono super shallow capacity. Might also want to consider that with the current exchange rate, all of Japan is still on sale for 20% off.
garroyo130
What size is your revros? The revros already comes with a shallow spool. Here a couple of other Daiwa spinning reel capacities for comparison ... Revros 1000 - 2/220, 3/160, 4/110 Exceler 1000 - 4/250, 6/160, 8/110 Revros 2000 - 4/160, 5/130, 6/110 Legalis 2000 - 4/340, 6/

I want to try out some ester line but the stuff I want to try only comes in 80m spools. I just don't want have to worry about backing, main line, and leader. Super User Darth-Baiter Posted March 23 Super User Share Posted March 23 asking because i dont know. what does a shallow spinning spool gain? it just peels off on a cast anyways.
PressuredFishing
1 hour ago, Darth-Baiter said: asking because i dont know. what does a shallow spinning spool gain? it just peels off on a cast anyways. better line management, use less thin line, no need for braid backing. You can put .5 200 yards of .55 gou on a 2500 shallow reel and no need for uneven line Lay that is caused by backing. They have different models also, s is half the depth of normal usdm spool, ss is super shallow for lighter lines. Area trout rods are very parabolic, they are a completley different animal than stream trout rods, just a heads up And finally, NO, the usdm market does not offer it to my knowledge, the usdm fishing market I have come to hate more and more every day with a fiery passion of 1000 sun's, expecially everything pure fishing. They treat us consumers like morons and sell us 15bb reels with line that is grossly and criminally underrated, 2lb u.s line breaks at 4-8lbs depending on manufacturer. Finally why the hell do they have to put tuna grade gauge wire hooks on even open water baits, it's assinine. Finally Usdm sunline assassin and Seagaur invisix are like rubber bands and should be burned in a bonfire with gasoline for their shame of quality compared to sunlines jdm machineguncast nylon, ygk gsoul or varivas nylon. It's embarrassing that Japan's high end 10$ nylons are less stretchy than a 20$ spool of usdm florocarbon. Sorry for the Hijack and rant OP (P.S, if I had the money I'd burn most of my pure fishing equiptment and usdm lines in the bonfire with the usdm fishing line and replace it with better equiptment, because every time I look at it I'm in disgust with how poor its performance is)
