Coolbaits Underspin tearing Swimbait

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I’ve been having a lot of success using the Underspins and Topspin’s with swim baits this spring. This is the first time using them for me.

But there is something I’ve been noticing. When I get strikes on the Coolbaits Underspin they tend to pull the Keitech swimbait back off the bait holder. When this happens the wire bait holder  cuts right through the Keitech head, so much so that it won’t stay in place anymore. I cleared through two packs of keitechs really fast!

So I switched to the 1st Gen Topspin because it has a different bait holder on it. It’s not wire like the Coolbaits.

I’ll post pictures on here. You can see how they are different. Well on the 1st gen I was getting the same strikes and the swimbait would be pulled back but it never tore anything. I could keep pushing the swimbait back on and it would keep working.

Have any of you guys experienced this with the Coolbaits bait holder? I was trashing through too many baits.

Thanks

Have you tried supergluing the baits to the head?

Maybe try some mend it to fix the torn swimbaits too

No I haven’t. That sounds like a great idea. Thanks for sharing that. I’ll go ahead and give it a whirl. That could save me some money for sure.

Anything will tear a Keitech.  Give the glue a try.

Dirty jigs designed an underspin that won't do that.

Great minds think alike. Yesterday I had just bought those for that very reason.

??

I've had good luck with the Owner Flashy Swimmer's, the twistlock centering pin they have on there keeps the baits from tearing up as fast in my use anyhow.

Actually, Matt Allen teamed up with Dirty Jigs to produce the Tactical Underspin. I just got mine in. Haven't used it yet (probably tomorrow) but it is a good looking unit with a small but very stout hook and no barb on top to tear the bait when a bass chomps it.

Yep, the Coolbaits hook keeper does not play well with a Keitech Fat Impact, but it does just fine with the Easy Shiner. Also a 4" Zoom Fat Albert grub is killer on it.
