What are you using your Steez A2 for?

Featured Replies

As the title says… for those of you that have a steez a2.     What applications are you using it for?   What line? What rod?

currently got one.  I feel like it’s ok.  Maybe I’m not using it right.  It’s nice but I feel like the zillion sv and zillion hd that I have are up there as well.   Was kinda hoping for a little more out of it given the bit higher price tag.

Using it on an Orochi XX Tour Versatile with 16lbs Seaguar R18 LTD….

At some point I’d like to try a steez, I own two zillions. If history is a teacher I’ll assume the masses will rave about the zillion. I myself own all daiwa except one. Shimano Metanium mgl b and that’s my favorite reel. Curious as well what people use the steez for.

Mine is collecting dust at the moment. I rotate it in every now and then but feel similar to you about it in that it's just okay. It's really the frame of it that I don't like. Such a dumb shape imo, wish they would retire this frame. It's about 10 years too old. Other than that I like the reel and I don't really like Daiwas across the board. I'd prob entertain selling it if anyone is interested lol

My Steez is also collecting dust. It gets used so rarely that I don't have a dedicated application for it. Rod is a Dobyns DX 743 with 12lb Maxima Ultragreen on it that I use as a general purpose rod when it gets into the rotation.

I have one on my big jig/swimbait rod. I like it but I dont see much of a difference between that and my Zillion.

I have two. The 6.x:1 is used for crankbaits and the 7.x:1 is used for Texas rigged soft plastic. I like both but as others have stated it is marginally better than the Zillion.  It does, to me, cast further and is a bit smoother but I might actually like how the Zillion palms better.

Been using my steez a2 every chance I can.  It’s starting to grow on me and feel better which each has.   It’s definitely a nice reel but for the money I think the zillion sv is the best bang for your buck. I don’t feel a huge difference over the 2.   Or even go with the zillion hd for a few bucks more to step it up a notch from the zillion sv.   Time will tell.  I haven’t found the perfect rod for it yet.  Ha.

End of the day, I wouldn’t of been disappointed if I had saved $75 and bought another zillion HD.   :)

Would the steez a2 be an acceptable reel for 17 lb invizx and used for small swimbaits like the 6” mag draft? I am looking to buy either a steez a2 or zillion hd and putting it on my new poison adrena b 7’4” heavy/moderate action rod. It will be for small Swimbaits like the 5” bull shad, 6” mag draft, etc.

It would be fine. I'm using mine for full size A rigs and top hook/weedless swimbaits like huds/burritos etc. Currently spooled with 20lb invisx and on a Dobyns 794.5AR

I have both and really either one would work. Personally I like the Steez AII better but for swimbaits I like a bigger handle.  I have put 100m Gomexus handle on one of mine. The handle on the Zillion HD is just fine to me. It might be the bigger knobs.

Very helpful thanks for the info.  What rod do you have this mounted on right now?  I have an IMX Pro 904c SWBR I have barely used and was thinking of selling it for the poison adrena- but after thinking about it more the rod I have is probably fine for the job I'm interested in it taking care of.  The only beast hooked bait I'm interested in throwing is the WCZ Citizen 6 and I'm not sure it has the power to drive that 6/0 beast hook home.

I have the one in the pic on a IMX Pro 866c CBR Deep Flex.  I throw primarily big cranks and deep cranks on it. I have tried it on a Megabass Valkyrie 7'4'' H+ and tossed around a few swimbaits with it. I liked it but I preferred it on the 866c. I also have a soft spot for the my 2012 Antares as my swimbait reel.

I haven't fished any of G. Loomis's swimbait rods so I am not sure how it would do with the Citizen. The Valkyrie I have does just fine with things like a Magdraft or a Slide Swimmer 145 but struggles with anything that approaches 3oz.  I would stick with what you and if you struggle with it, maybe then it would be time to sell and move on to something else.
