Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted March 16, 2024 Global Moderator Posted March 16, 2024 Slicker than a peeled onion! Going to try to poke them thru some big ones in the morning 4 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 16, 2024 Global Moderator Posted March 16, 2024 I haven't stuck any big ones yet, but I have stuck several with them. Every, single, fish, the hook has completely blown through the lip, something that is not easy to do fishing from a kayak. Yesterday, I was making long cast from shore with a ML spinning rod and a small stickworm, same results. No doubt the coating is allowing for the hook to slide through easier. Even through the bony part on the top of the nose, still made it through. The even better part is the Gamakatsu quality and it cost the same as their other hooks. It's a no brainer for sure. 9 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 16, 2024 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 16, 2024 It's important to note that the Nano Alpha coating isn't new, but it is new to the U.S. market. It's been used for several years in Japan, becoming the overwhelming choice for bass anglers. It's battle-proven in tough, heavily pressured waters - both salt and freshwater. Simply put, Japanese bass anglers absolutely love Gamakatsu Nano Alpha hooks, and now it's available here! 3 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 16, 2024 Global Moderator Posted March 16, 2024 While these hooks are new to the American market, they’re not new. These hooks have been put through the tests and available to the anglers in Japan for a while now. The property coating not only allows for better hook penetration, but it has 4x the corrosion resistance of other hooks including the hooks they’ve had available to us here in the US. Like @Bluebasser86 said the price is still the same. So, we have the same price, same quality hooks we’ve all used, same sharp points, and now with the added coating, we have better hook penetration, and 4x the corrosion resistance. For you lure makers, they have hooks available for you too! 2 Quote
KDW96 Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 Coating hooks with teflon type stuff was done in the early 90s. Reinventing the wheel i guess. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted March 16, 2024 Author Global Moderator Posted March 16, 2024 Well the big girls evaded me but I poked four with a 2/0 on tx rig and green pumpkin zoom finesse worm. Violent hook set not necessarily required with these, I was using 6 lb Tatsu line on spinning gear 7 Quote

Every, single, fish, the hook has completely blown through the lip, something that is not easy to do fishing from a kayak. To me, this is the most interesting, noteworthy part when I test tackle. When something really jumps out at you that may be different...but in a really obvious way. My favorite Wacky/Dropshot hook did the same...the extreme penetration, ease of hookset, etc all REALLY jumped out at me in a sea of otherwise "good" hooks. I think most hooks are "good" but it's these types of obvious standouts (in addition to the smaller nuances) that take a piece of tackle from "good" to "great" or even "exceptional". Truly, these are the types of insights I appreciate. 5 Quote
rgasr63 Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 I think these hooks are very good. They help you make a good hook set. Others will have their own opinions without a doubt but I personally see a hook up- grade coming soon. I only have one pack but the hook that I used the other day will serve me well on another trip. 1 Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 19, 2024 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 19, 2024 Yes, the jig hooks are size 2 through 8/0. Definitely plenty of choices for bass jigs. Quote
