Another help me choose a rod (spinning)

Featured Replies

*New to Bass* I am looking for a new rod for bass fishing.  Right now I am using an older All star PT60MS 6', 8-17lbs Medium action.  This rod is around 3+ yrs old and looking for a new one.  I am willing to spend roughly $150 on the new rod and the reel I will be using is a Stradic 2500.  I am leaning towards the Fenwick Techna 6'6", or maybe a St. Croix.  Now I have been also looking at Cabelas XML Ti, anyone have any experience with these rods?  This rod for the time being will have to fill the role as all purpose for lures.  I know everyone raves about Loomis but they seem a little out of my price range.    Currently I use an Fenwick Eagle GT ultralite with a sedona 1000 for the past year and looking to get more serious about bass fishing.  Also can anyone recommend a new use for the All star.

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The techna or st. croix avid would be excelliant choices in my opinion.

St Croix Avid or Falcon Cara

I would suggest a St. Croix Premier 6'6" Medium - Fast tip.  That should work for all applications as an all-purpose rod.  Falcon Cara rods are pretty nice also, that's what I'm switching over too in 2007.  These St. Croix's and Falcons fall under your $150 price range.  Your Stradic 2500 is a good reel teamed up with those rods.

Your old rod seems like it would be a good tube or light worm rod, since it's only 6' in length. Any light rigging should be good with the old All-Star rod.

Welcome aboard!

I have a Fenwick Techna AV and  two St. Croix Avid rods.

My recommendation is the Avid AS66MF or AS70MF.

Aren't Avids around $180?  Suppose to be the step above Premiers?

Thanks for the help everyone I have decided to go with the St Croix Avid.  Now just one last thing to add.  I will most likely be fishing 85% plastics which will mostly be senkos.  So would you recommend the Avid 6'6" Fast action or the 6'8" X-Fast action for the sensitivity?  Thanks again

The Avid should be around $150 to $160 max. unless the price has recently gone up.
